Our home is on the Bickerseiland, which is one of the three Western Islands in the center of Amsterdam. Since the XVII century (Dutch Golden Age) there have been warehouses and shipyards on this island. Over the years, the warehouses have been transformed into stylish apartments. Canals, old wooden bridges, boats, very limited car traffic and former warehouses are an important part of the pleasant atmosphere on this neighborhood, which combines small businesses, art galleries and housing. As of the 1960, this area was “discovered” by artists and bohemian types, and many live here. It´s atmosphere is one of a small, cozy, relaxed village cocooned within the bigger city. Living here one experiences peace, harmony, the connection with the past as well as the enticement of a cosmopolitan, attractive and open-minded city. This neighborhood is one of the most sought after places to live in Amsterdam.

At walking distance there are nice restaurants and cafeterias. From our house it is a 3 minutes walk to the Haarlemmerdijk street. This shopping street has been elected by popular vote as the nicest shopping street in the Netherlands and is much praised for the diversity of small and original shops.
One minute walk further and you're in the middle of "De Jordaan", the famous romantic district filled with boutiques, restaurants, galleries and (organic) open markets. The Central Train Station is about 10 minutes walking distance away. The large and pleasant Westerpark (ideal for picknicking, playing football, tennis, freezbe, jogging, cycling etc) is 10 minutes away from our house.

The classic 4 main city canals (Prinsengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Singel) are at 5 minutes walking distance from our house.
At 4 minutes walking distance from us you can rent a boat (with a silent electric engine) to discover by yourself Amsterdam from the water!
Amsterdam is a global village with a wide cultural offer: great museums, great galleries, vibrant music performances...

The easy going, relaxed attitude of its inhabitants is contagious. Come to Amsterdam and enjoy a great vacation!

We are a young family with two well behaved children (aged 11 and 9) . Martine is a free-lance marketing consultant and Sergi performs business development for international software companies.

For us “holiday” means quality time together and “discovering” new things. Our ideal holiday involves contact with nature, water, good food and experiencing local authenticity.

We are attracted to home exchange because its about sharing and trusting. We have exchanged homes once (summer 2012) and it has been great experience.

Our ideal destination consists of a house with a garden and nice views that offers plenty of options to discover things around (nice nature, cycling, nice walks...). In spring and summer holidays we love to swim, so a swimming pool in the house or near by would be great!
