After having lived in a 100 year old appartment in the south of Amsterdam for 40 years, I moved to a very modern (2007)and comfortable apartment in Amsterdam Oud-West.

Now, three years later it's become MY House, with a warm and open atmosphere, the heigh ceilings (3,20 m) and the large glass windows everywhere make the apartment very roomy and light.

The lay-out of the apartment:

Downstairs: private entrance at streetlevel , a small hall and a large (2nd) bathroom.
The studio-like room is 50m2 with a high ceiling (3,20), 2 high windows at the streetside and a glasswall/french windows giving entrance to the garden.
There is fully equipped kitchen with a fridge, dishwasher, electric stove and oven with a grill.
A large, selfdesigned table which easily sits 10.
With a view of the covered terrace and the garden there is comfortable couch, large bookcases (almost a library), tv, broadband internet.
The garden is modest in size but very pleasant, there is a 3 x 5m large roofed over terrace with a large table for outdoor meals and deckchairs.

Via an open wooden staircase you reach the upstairs with a roomy bedroom with a view of the garden, a large lit-jumeaux, a big wardrobe etc.

The 2nd bedroom at the streetside also has a double bed, a baby cot and a large cupboard with an inbuilt workspace.
There is a small storage room in the corridor with the cv/hot-water installation, a washingmachine, ironing board, a vacuum cleaner etc.
(you can also make use of the launderette and dry cleaner which are in walking distance)
There is nice bathroom with a large bath, seperate 2nd shower, basin and a toilet. There is a radiator/towel-rack.
All the windows of the apartment are fitted with blinds or curtains, there is double glazing, central heating and the house is insulated to make it comfortable warm in winter and cool in the summer.

I live in the 19th centrury build Oud-West where, like in many Amsterdam neighborhoods there have been a lot of changes during the past ten years in the way of renovating old houses and sometimes spectacular new architecture without ruining the 'feel' of the place.
All this has also attracted a new population, even more diverse then before. Elderly people but also young professionals, students, ex-pats and a representation of many cultures.
There are many very pleasant shops, restaurants, boutiques and cafe's, people are very easy going and friendly, and.... speak English and many other languages.
All this around the corner, but my street itself is very quiet and peacefull.

Amsterdams famous Vondelpark with memories of the sixties and flower power, with possibilities for sport, summer concerts and theatre productions, open air cafe's and barbecue and play grounds and a childrens pool is nearby.
The world-famous Concertgebouw and museums like the van Gogh museum, the recently re-opened museum of modern and The Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum (Rembrand) are in walking distance or are easily reached by public transport. The same goes for other parts of Amsterdam, the center or Central station.

I live by myself but am often surrounded by friends, children and grandchildren.
I have a wide interest especially for visiual arts, photography and music, gardening and traveling.
I've been pensioned for 10 years now and worked for 30 years as a social worker and psycho-therapist.

I paint, love to go to museums, I love Amsterdam (am a real 'city-girl), but also like the country-side around Amsterdam, love cycling and walking.
I have travelled a lot in Europe but also Australia, Ethiopia and the US. Have been to Washington DC and New York many times. During my last visit to New York in October 2011 I realized that I would like to stay there for a longer period, a month if possible, to get to know the city in a different way.
Part of the time I will be with two friends.
