Welcome to our house!
We have been living here now for 1o years and love it very much. We hope you do too, and treat it as such. We are situated a stone’s throw away from the city center in a newly build residential area.
Here we are, continuing the Dutch tradition of (re)claiming land from the sea, building on islands. Like most of our great city, this is how this area was created.
Our borough has a great number of young families with many children from the baby age to teenagers from many different nationalities from Holland like France, Belgium, Turkey and the Dutch Antilles.
Our house is spacious and great for kids. Lots of toys for kiddies and kids, dvd’s, comics, books – English – cd’s and of course Nickelodeon, Boomerang and Cartoon Network. You’ll have two bathrooms, and three toilets, five bedrooms, a garden, 5 bicycles, the kitchen, our living room and our car (if you wish) at your disposal.
We have comfortable garden to sit a night, enjoy your meal, have a barbecue and enjoy the passing of neighborhood children and their parents.
A residential neighborhood with all facilities close by for your convenience.
Within 5 minutes walking we have numerous shops for your daily groceries: a butcher, baker, supermarkets, pharmacies, as well a various restaurants: Greek, Italian, Turkish.
A few blocks away we have a lovely little yacht harbor with restaurants and cafes. The harbour connects to the great IJsselmeer which is our inner lake. Here you also find our city-beach http://www.blijburg.nl which is great for kids and adults to swim, eat, drink and relax.
By bicycle it is very easy to make day tours, or shorter trips to the surrounding villages like Naarden, Muiden, Nieuwendam, Durgerdam or cycle into Amsterdam centre. Though close to the city nature is really plentyful available. The Diemerpark is great for a stroll, picknick, bicycle ride. Here is where the local soccer, hockey teams are practicing.
Public transport is the way getting you in to Amsterdam centre. Info on the Amsterdam public transport newtwork which runs 24/7 is available here http://www.gvb.nl Just a short 15 minutes tram ride brings you to the centre where you find the Amsterdam Historical Museum, The Royal Palace on the Dam, Anne Frank house and Madam Tussaud. Just as easy one transfer by tram brings you to the the Museum plein with the van Gogh museum, RijksMuseum and het Stedelijk Museum. Of course there’s much more like our Zoo http://www.artis.nl the botanical gardens, canal boat cruises. All about this and more you can find at http://www.iamsterdam.com
By car you can venture out and about to the nearby historical fishing villages of Volendam, Monnickendam, as well as the http://www.zaanseschans.nl but also the cheese city of Alkmaar with it’s Friday Cheese market http://www.kaasmarkt.nl But you can of course make the extended day trips to the Hague where the government houses, Rotterdam the no 1 seaport of Western Europe, the Delta Werken in Zeeland protecting us from the water http://www.deltawerken.com if you wish.
Of course the National Railways system is very efficient and brings you to any corner of the country within hours. Easy, relaxing and comfortable. All the info on how to get about by train you can find at http://www.ns.nl
Any more info you would like to have we are happy to help you with finding it for you.
Any questions you may have, things that are unclear, just drop us a line and we'll see if we can answer it, or find help to do so.
We are a family of five: Mom-Antonia, 3 daughters-Ariel 17 years, Zoe 13 years and Leah 8 years old, and of course Dad-Tako.
We're a family of dual nationalities. Antonia is Spanish, Tako is Dutch, the girls a wonderful mix. Enjoying the wonderful experience of both cultures. Both Tako and myself have done lots of travelling when young, and have continued to feed our kids these worldly wonders by travelling.
We like to live life to it's fullest, love the exchange with other cultures both at home and away from home.
Antonia is architect with the government of Amsterdam, and Tako is employed as sales manager NL, for Air Europa, the largest Spanish airline.
