Description of our house

We offer a big farmhouse close to the northern coast. The house was built in the 30's by the Dutch government as part of a mobilisation complex. Now it is an artist's residence. Although the house has modern comfort, it is still very simple and modest in its appearance'. It is definitively not impeccable and therefore not suitable for strict perfectionists. Music can be made here without disturbing neighbours:there are several musical instruments, like a Bechstein grand piano, a keyboard and a drumset. Besides making music it is of course also possible to use the studio / atelier for other creative purposes.

Our village of 1200 people, mostly fishermen (60 ships approx.)is located at the grand northern Dutch dike: 'de afsluitdijk' there is a big lock from the IJselmeer to the Wadden sea.. Den Oever is only 45 minutes away from the citycentre of Amsterdam, connected by a straight highway, so both the countryside, the westcoast beach (20 minute drive) and the city are in close reach. Our village Den Oever is geographically located in Wieringen, an island till the 1930's, at the Waddensea, as well as at the IJsselmeer, which is a freshwater lake. In the summertime a lot of sailing yachts pass the locks here. Swimming in the nearby Amstel lake. With low tide one can walk for miles through the Waddensea. There are many fishermen here who can take you to the Northsea for sportfishing and sealspotting. It is great here for walking, biking and birdwatching. Old small historic dutch villages and towns are in direct reach. One can take a nearby ferry to one of the wadden-islands. fresh seafood and biological market once a week. Something about ourselves
