Description of our house

Most of our home was constructed in 1860, quite a bit older however is the 'achterhuis' (the back part of the house, similar to where Anne Frank - only 500 meters away - took refuge). Although we thoroughly renovated our house, it still breathes its original atmosphere. Many decorations like the old doors and the big fire place will remind you of ancient times. We live on three levels. Second floor serves for sleeping mostly. Three spacious bedrooms with double beds each. There you'll also find our luxuorius bathroom. Third floor contains the living room and open kitchen. The sunny roof terrace (50m2) is located on this level. The top floor is a beautiful attic which we renovated only recently. Looking out of the window you'll see the sun set behind ancient church towers. Although our house is centrally located only 7 walking minutes from Central Station, we find it an oasis of tranquility: during daytime our street is very quiet, and at night you'll 'hear' the silence as if you were on the countryside. We love the light that falls beautifully through the many windows, and feel privileged living here.

Our home is located in a quiet street of the historical centre of Amsterdam, where old meets new (the apartments facing ours). We have a nice, laidback playground for kids in front of our home. Cross 2 corners and stroll down the canals. Or walk through one of the cosiest and fanciest shopping streets of Amsterdam (the Haarlemmer Dijk), with its many restaurants and international food stores. Dam Square is only 15 minutes walking, Central Station (where international trains arrive and trains run regularly to every part of Holland) is only 7 minutes walking distance. Rijksmuseum and Concertgebouw are 15 minutes by bike or public transport. Beach and dunes only 25 minutes. Public transportation in and around Amsterdam is superb. We ourselves however prefer our bicycles, so feel free to use them, they are by far the most relaxed means of transportation to go around our beautiful city. Something about ourselves

Dagmar and I are both 49 years old. We have two children Eva (19) and David (18). Dagmar currently teaches at Leiden University, I am a musician and web designer. Our familiy further consists of two friendly cats (mother and son), whom you'd take care of. Although we live in the centre of Amsterdam and love its cultural life, we also enjoy escaping from civilization, so we do a lot of hiking in the mountains (when abroad, of course).
