Amsterdam centre is 20 minutes by train from our little village. So near the city, it's hard to believe how rural it is here! We have a lovely house with a large garden overlooking a meadow with a windmill. It's over a 100 years old and we've recently refurbished it thoroughly. Like all Zaanse houses, ours is almost completely wooden inside and outside and painted in traditional colors. We have a large kitchen with dining area, which is almost the most important area to us. There is a spacious living room with a fire place and a wooden terrace overlooking the garden. Another nice room is the library with tv and dvd where you can have a good read in the afternoon. Upstairs there are three bedrooms (one master bedroom with a double bed (litsjumeaux) with bathroom ensuite, one standard double and one twin. The bigger bath room has a bath and seperate shower. The study is overlooking the meadows. New pictures soon to come!

We live in a village which lies like a ribbon between meadows. On both sides lies an natural area officially EU protected, where a lot of special birds live. You can take the car if you like to go to the beach and the dunes (we often walk there) or to the 'cheese capital' of Alkmaar. If you want to go to Amsterdam you better go to the train station by car (5 min) or bicycle and take the train to the city centre (15 min). There is a supermarket in the village and a few small other shops. Wormerveer, Krommenie and Zaandam are near where you can get everything you need. And of course there's Amsterdam!

We are a very busy couple of 51 and 56. Gerbrand is a theatre consultant in Amsterdam and Marianne teaches Dutch language and literature/drama on a high school in Krommenie, a village nearby. We have two grandsons, so there are a lot of things for children, f.e. a pram and a baby camping bed.
We love (mountain)walking, theatre, literature, art and cooking. We visited England, Italy and France a lot for walking. We have two adult daughters who live in the neighbourhood. When there's a problem they can always help. Up till now we did seven exchanges in France, Italy, England and Norway;they were all great!
