The most striking feature of my very spacious and light duplex apartment are the high ceilings (over 4m) in the almost 7mx7m living room with open kitchen. The old school building in which it is based contains eight newly refurbished apartments. We share a peaceful garden with the residents of the apartment building next door. In a storage room next to this garden I keep some wooden outdoor furniture. There is also a beautiful, calm, small park next door with play facilities for children and a mini farm. The style of my furniture is modern mixed with some older pieces. The floor is rustic wooden throughout the apartment. Luxury modern kitchen with good built-in equipment. The kitchen is based inside the large living room, as are the piano, desk, large design sofa and dining table. The main bedroom is very large and cosy (4mx7m) with a double futon bed, a sofa and a large wardrobe. The second bedroom also has a double bed and a large bookshelf. Modern bathroom with bath and separate shower. Separate laundry room and second toilet downstairs. The apartment building has a separate locked bicycle shed. Use of bicycles (I have 4, including two racing bicycles) possible. Lots of art work throughout the apartment.

The apartment building is in an old part of Tilburg, next to the Textile Museum and very close to the wonderful modern art museum De Pont. The proper town centre and the train station are 15-20 minutes on foot, although of course we tend to cycle there (5-10 minutes)! Tilburg itself is a medium-size Dutch city (200,000 inhabitants) in the centre of the province Noord-Brabant. It is not your typical touristic Dutch city with canals, but it is still really nice and renowned for its capacity for the good life as well as its many and original cultural events. The location is excellent for people interested in doing day trips throughout The Netherlands and Belgium. At the end of July we have the annual fair ('kermis'), which is allegedly the biggest in Europe. Breda, Den Bosch and Eindhoven (which has a low cost airport) are each 20 minutes away. Antwerp is 50 minutes by car and 1h20 by train, Amsterdam is 1h30 by train and a bit less by car. The famous theme park De Efteling and safari park De Beekse Bergen each are 10 minutes by car. For more information on Tilburg, see http://www.vvvtilburg.nl On a personal side note: I moved here from Brussels for my job three years ago and I appreciate the life here a lot, especially the endless possibilities for long cycling and walking tours. ![]() Something about ourselves

I am an academic in my early thirties who loves spending time in one particular place abroad even more than travelling. I have studied or worked in Japan, the UK, France and Belgium. I love the outdoors but really appreciate city life too. ![]()
