The house is a typical 1930's Maastricht townhouse. Many of these houses are devided in 2 appartments, each with its own entrance. Ours is on the groundfloor with livingroom, diningroom, bedroom and kitchen + spare bedroom and a simple shower on the first floor. There is a front- and backgarden. The house is situated in an ideal spot. The famous square 'Vrijthof' in the centre of the city is about 7 minutes on foot. At the back of the house are the remains of the defenseworks of the city dating from the end of the 18th century. It now is a protected natural area ideal for a daily stroll. You can hardly get lost there as you just have to look for the church. It looks old and impressive, but is an early 20 century copy of the Sacré Coeur in Paris.
Although the house is situated on a busy street thanks to double glazing no sound is heard inside, except when the firebrigade comes galopping by. In the backgarden one feels to be in the countryside.
The house is not large, but cosy, comfortable and well equipped. It is a house we love to invite friends for dinner. You will like it.
We would like to be in a warm area in jan 1012.
Of course it is not interesting to come at wintertime to our house. We are on our regular campingholliday in june, so you could come than to our house. We are not interested to go to Australia and New Zealand The house is a typical 1930's Maastricht townhouse. Many of these houses are devided in 2 appartments, each with its own entrance. Maastricht is the oldest town in the Netherlands. It has a beautifull historic center with Roman remnants and also a very nice citycenter with high grade shops. It is situated in the most southern part of the country. It is nicknamed the first French city on the route from the North of Europe to the South of France because of its burgundian atmosphere. For instance there is 1 pub in about every 25 inhabitants. Nowhere in the Netherlands is such a high concentration of restaurants with one or two Michelin stars.
As the Netherlands are mostly flat land, our region is hilly. It can be compared to Tuscany, only the hills are more steep instead of sloping. It is therefor ideal for extended walks. Our national pride is situated only 20 km. from Maastricht. It is a mountain of 140 mtrs. high. On this 'mountain' also is the spot where 3 countries meet, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. So you can stand in 2 countries at the same time (and spit on the third at your liking). The house is an ideal starting point for hiking and biking, but also for visiting cities abroad, such as Brussels, Antwerp, Düsseldorf, Cologne which can be reached by car in about 1 hour.. Liege (Belgium) with its beautiful trainstation, designed by the worldfamous architect Caletrava, is only 20 min. from Maastricht There also go trains. Amsterdam by train is 2,5 hours. Central Paris in about 3 hours.

We are a married couple in our sixties. My wife Mareike worked most of her life as a psychiatric nurse. I (Nis van der Horst) worked at the creative side of the Audio-Visual business as a scriptwriter, director and producer. In 1996 we switched our occupations and started a nursery of rare garden plants. At the beginning of 2009 we sold the nursery and now enjoy our retirement. We regularly go camping abroad with our 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II.We have done allready 4 exanges and we liked them all. We are a married couple in our sixties.
