Cuyutlan is a small beach town about 20 miles south of Manzanillo on Mexico's Pacific Coast. Our villa is 2 km south of the town on the only beach road. Another km down the road is a popular turtle sanctuary. This is a quiet area except over the Christmas and Easter holiday periods. It is not a resort town. For golf courses and night life, you would need to drive to Manzanillo, a 30-40 minute drive north along the coast. There are still many empty lots along our beach road, so it remains a quiet area for rest and relaxation. In the center of town there are several small hotels, beach restaurants with lots of beach chairs to use and a lovely malecon (like a boardwalk). There are some small grocery stores and fresh fish for sale, but major grocery shopping is in Tecoman, a mid-sized city about 20 minutes' drive from Cuyutlan. The area is an endless sea of palm trees. Tecoman is known as a lime growing center. There are other beach areas between Cuyutlan and Tecoman. Inland about 40 minutes' drive is the city of Colima which is delightful. There are lots of good restaurants there. It has a nice size shopping center, 2 Walmarts, Sears, Home Depot, Sam's Club, Office Depot and other larger stores. There is a lovely anthropological museum and nearby are a couple of archeological sites. It is a beautiful drive from Cuyutlan to Colima.
Something about ourselves
We are John and Andrea, 79 and 74 years young with a lot of energy and enthusiasm for new adventures. Our home reflects our years of extensive world travel. We have lived and worked in the US - East, West, TX, MI and Hawaii (4 years); Heidelberg,Germany (1 year), Japan (near Kyoto - twice) and now Mexico. Our children have lived as adults in Japan, Zimbabwe and Australia. John is a retired PhD chemist who has worked on the Apollo space program, in academia at SUNY-Stony Brook and Mich State Univ, and as a consultant/textbook author in the field of forensic science. Andrea is a retired math teacher and now retired academic specialist and Assistant to the Dean for Study Abroad (College of Social Science, MSU). We love our life in Mexico, but we still feel the pull of experiencing other places in this wide, wide world. We can do non-simultaneous exchanges, and would enjoy playing host.
