Description of our house
[
![]() ]
We live in an ancient Palazzo (16th cent.), which was once owned by a family of bishops and silk traders. Our apartment is on the third floor, very finely restored, with 3 bedrooms (tot. of 5 beds) and a library (where two more people can sleep). The highlights of our apartment are: - The big (60 mq) terrace on two levels, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama on Florence, its churches, its rooves, its hills. - The eat-in kitchen (we have a very big dining room, too); furnished with all you can desire. - The terrace (which is actually a roof-garden) is the perfect place for spring and summer barbecues and outside dinners. We easily host up to thirty people there. - The ancient pietra serena spiral staircase which leads directly to the cellar. There's no air conditioning, but we have (much healthier!) ceiling fans in every room. There's no elevator. We have 1 MB internet, WiFi (you can surf on the internet while sun-bathing on the terrace), toys for kids, thousands of books and records.

We live in San Frediano, the most authentic and famous neighbourhood of Oltrarno. Oltrarno is the part of historical Florence on the left (=south) side of the river. Our house is 100 mt from river Arno, 200 mt or less from Ponte Santa Trinita and Ponte Vecchio, 100 from Palazzo Pitti, 50 mt from Carmine's. Masaccio's frescoes, 300 mt from Piazzale Michelangelo. From our upper terrace you can see Forte Belvedere, Palazzo Vecchio, Fiesole ... should I go on ? You are at 7 mins walking distance from the most famous turistic places of Florence. All the same, our neighbourhood (unlike others in the town centers) is a place where Florentinian families live, with no souvenir shops and no long lines of tourists trying to cross the road. Something about ourselves

Carlo is an electronic engineer (42 years old), and a language software espert, Carolina (39) is a manager in a big corporation. And then, there are Guglielmo, 9 years old, Livia, 7 and Giovanni 4 years old. We used to travel a lot before having children, and we have discovered that home exchange can allow us to continue, even with small kids. We have swapped home 12 times and in all cases it has been a wonderful experience. Carlo's passion - and job- is studying minority and strange languages, Carolina's hobby is cooking. She's considered (among her friends) one of the best cooks of her age in town. (sept 2011) ![]()
