We live in the countryside just four miles from Kenmare town which regularly wins the title of Ireland's Tidiest Town. We designed and built the house in 2000 having retired here from Limerick city. It sits in a woodland garden of one acre and is very private and tranquil. The front of the house faces Kenmare Bay and the rear looks onto fields and mountains. The garden is full of flowers, mature oaks, birch trees with woodland planting.
Downstairs we have a large bedroom overlooking the garden and the sea and behind this room is a bathroom with bath, toilet and shower which is ideal for guests. The kitchen which is well equipped leads onto the dining area which overlooks the garden and the bay. We have a comfortable sitting room with a wood burning stove, television, music centre. There is a separate toilet, cloakroom, and utility area with washing machine, dryer and freezer downstairs also.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one en suite, one with twin beds with a separate bathroom. The office is also upstairs, this is where the computer is kept. This area is also used as a studio.
We love living in Kenmare and welcome family and friends to share it with us. We live in the countryside just four miles from Kenmare town which regularly wins the title of Ireland's Tidiest Town. South Kerry is a mecca for golfers, walkers, fishermen, and for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and beautiful scenery. Kenmare is on the Ring of Kerry and is a tourist town with excellent restaurants in all price ranges. It has lively pubs and traditional music during the summer season. Killarney, Waterville, Ballybunion, Dooks Tralee, and the Old Head Of Kinsale golf courses are but a short drive away and Kenmare has two excellent golf courses of its own to boast about. There are wonderful beaches within an hours drive. Just beside us there is a small marina where small boats and canoes can be hired. Kenmare has been described as one of the ten best places in the world to retire to by Fortune Magazine. We retired to Kenmare in 2000 and love living here. Paddy and Deirdre, we are in our sixties. Paddy was an accountant and I was a stay at home mother. We both enjoy golf, reading, gardening, choir singing and our grandchildren. We have four children and six grandchildren.
The house is not really suitable for small children as there is an open stairwell inside and a big drop in the back garden. This is our third year being involved in home exchange. We have done eight exchanges so regard ourselves as old timers at this stage. We have been to Europe, Australia and America, all wonderful experiences.
We are planning to go to Canada in September 2012. We always reply to emails as a matter of courtesy. We really prefer just couples rather than families to exchange with as the house is really not suitable for small children. We retired to Kenmare in 2000 and love living here.
