If you want beautiful scenery and enjoy outdoor life this house is for you. It is our family summer home, which we also go to in the winter at weekends. The front of this house is all glass and you will enjoy looking out on the lake. It is a canadian style house on three levels. On the top floor there is a bedroom with double bed and en-suite bathroom. This bedroom opens up to a balcony overlooking the main living area. The living area has a bar area too! on this level there are two further bedrooms: One family bedroom with two double beds and another bedroom with double bed. There is a bathroom on this level too.
In the basement ,which also opens up to the garden ,you will find the main kitchen and dining area. We have room for the table tennis here too. The kids bedroom is on this level and has two sets of bunk beds. Laundry room, toilet and shower here too. If you like fishing or boating our house is ideal as we have our own pier and swimming area directly in front of the house. However this house has no telephone or tv chanells. We have a TV and DVD player and plenty of DVD's, books, games etc. It is an escape from everyday distractions.
Our house is situated in the village of Oughterard right beside Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the republic of Ireland. This lake is famous for its brown trout and Salmon fishing. Oughterard marks the start of the beautiful Connemara National Park, with breathtaking scenery. Ideal for hiking, walking, cycling or just driving.
There are plenty of places to eat in Oughterard with small resturants and plenty of bars. There is two supermarkets, chemists, post office, butchers, church and everything you would find in a small town. If you like golf there is a beautiful golf course in Oughtetard. Right beside our house is a boat tour to the famous Ashford Castle and Cong village on the other side of the lake. It is well worth taking this trip. See http://www.oughterardtourism.com
We are only a 20 minute drive (17km) into the picturesque Galway City ( City of the Tribes) full of culture and charm and plenty of nightlife. You can fly into Dublin airport 3hours away or Shannon airport in the west of Ireland 1.30 hrs or Galway airport 40 minutes away.
My husband is self employed with his own transport company and I work as a manager in Adult Education specialising in adult literacy. We have four children. Two girls and two boys. Ages 14,13,11 & 8. We like to travel and see new places. This house is owned by myself and my three sisters who also live in Ireland. We have spent many happy years here as children and now get to enjoy it with our own children. We will respect and mind your home. As this is our second home we are available to swap anytime and happy to meet you when you arrive in Ireland. We have done one successful exchange to Marrakech and France which we really enjoyed. Our family home is in Ennis, County Clare and we would be happy exchange with this house too.
