Our holiday cottage is situated in the lively rural village of Miltown Malbay. Miltown Malbay is in the county Clare, in the beautiful west of Ireland. The nearby beach of Spanish Point is approx 1 mile away (3 mins drive/15 mins walk). The coast around this area is spectacular; sweeping hills, cliffs and crashing waves. It is also famous for surfing and every water sport imaginable. The village of Lahinch, (just a 10 mins drive) is one of Europe's top surfing destinations and runs day-long or week-long surfing lessons for all ages. Waking enthusiasts will find countless trails and treks to explore. Boating tours and adventures depart from a number of nearby piers, taking people to the Cliffs of Moher or dolphin-watching.
The village of Miltown Malbay is home to Ireland, and the world's, most famous traditional Irish music festival, the Willie Clancy Festival. Wonderful, impromptu music sessions take place in any one of the 10+ pubs (and can spill out into the street!) on just about any night of the week. Irish set-dancing classes run throughout the summer. There are some wonderful restaurants in the village, catering for all tastes and price ranges, as well as an internet cafe, a DVD rental shop, numerous pubs, fashion and shoe boutiques, a surf shop, traditional music and tourist and craft shops. And possibly the most mouth-watering bakery ever!
Miltown Malbay is ideally situated for tourists. Nearby locations, within reasonable driving distance (20-40 mins), include the world-famous attractions of the Cliffs of Moher, the Aillwee Caves, the Burren, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin, Kilkee, Cragg Cave, Craggaunowen, Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, Quinn Abbey, the town of Ennis, the cities of Limerick and Galway and the Arran Islands, not to mention the filming locations of top TV comedy Fr Ted! It is also an ideal base for exploring the neighbouring counties of Galway to the north and Kerry to the south.
We have a very comprehensive folder in the house of all things to do locally, which we prepared for previous home exchanges.

We are a retired Irish couple, with three adult children. Our daughter (college lecturer), her husband (accountant) and their two children are also interested in doing a house swap, as are our son and his wife (both teachers). Between us, we would be interested in arranging a few different swaps during the year. Because the cottage is our second home, exchanges can be non-simultaneous.
Restoring this cottage was a labour of love for us and is our haven. This is where we head when we need to recharge our batteries! We are interested in seeing the world and hope to exchange with people who will treat our cottage with love and respect, as we will treat theirs.
