My home is only a few years old, but has a traditional Balinese Alang Alang roof on the upper floor. (Note: not good for people with allergies in some cases). It is very cosy and comfy and is located at Balangan on the Bukit which is the best surfing area on the island. The house is close to the shops, supermarket, restaurants, sightseeing, basically everything and only a short drive to Balangan or Jimbaran Beach.
The upstairs level has 2 bedrooms with air conditioning and king size beds and a TV & DVD in each room. One bedroom has an adjoining covered balcony with comfy seating. Downstairs is a very large, open living/dining room with TV & DVD, the kitchen, separate laundry and separate bathroom.
Maid service 3 times per week also included.
My house is a 20 minute taxi ride from the international airport at Denpasar which costs around $15 USD.
Balangan is one of the loveliest areas in Bali with one of the nicer beaches. The house is a 5 minute walk to the supermarket, shops & taxis, 10 minute drive to the local beach and Jimbaran, 15 minutes to Uluwatu, 30 minutes to Kuta, 25 minutes to Nusa Dua and 30 to 40 minutes to Seminyak. Local restaurants are just around the corner. It's all here. My home is only a few years old, but has a traditional Balinese Alang Alang roof on the upper floor. Balangan is the "up and coming" location in Bali and it seems everyone is discovering it and wanting to live here. I did live in Seminyak for many years and because it has become so busy there I have permanently moved down to Balangan. I love it, yet it is still close enough for me to pop in to town to meet friends or run errands.
My house is situated close to everything. It is in a strategic location, but the house is located off the main roads. If you enjoy sunset drinks and dining out then this is definitely where you want to be. We have some great restaurants in the area: Indonesian, Italian, Seafood on the beach at Jimbaran (my favourite), Mexican, Thai, Spanish, they are all close and delicious. If your budget is tight you can always go to one of the local Warungs (restaurants) in the neighbourhood and indulge in the local food with the locals for 50c to $1.
Taxis are super affordable here and only a phone call or short walk away. You could also get yourself a car and driver if you prefer. A motorbike perhaps? Tours are easily organised and everyone is helpful.
You can always also pop over to one of the other islands for a few days (there are over 17,000 islands in the Indonesian Archipelago after all!) as flights are very affordable. If you want to be self indulgent then this is the place to be. There are loads of spas if you feel like a massage, facial, manicure/pedicure, reflexology, mandi lulur, you name it you can have it. I am Australian and have lived in Bali for over 9 years. I am single (although sometimes a friend may join me on my travels) and love to travel and this seems the ideal opportunity to experience another country and affording others the opportunity to spend some time on this wonderful island of Bali.
I left Melbourne in 2003 with the intention of spending a year in Bali and I am still here...... what's to go back for?
I have experienced many successful exchanges over the past four years to Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Morrocco, France, Czech Republic, China, UK & Holland (to date 25 in total).
I have my own online business which enables me to travel overseas and also allows me to pop over to neighbouring islands as often as possible. I enjoy going to the beach, eating out with friends and the island life. I am Australian and have lived in Bali for over 9 years.
