Description of our house

This is our primary home built 2007. We have underfloor heating by geothermal water from a local borehole. The house is very warm and cozy even in the winter weather of Iceland! The views are spectacular, the hot pot ready for use year round and the peace and quiet a treat. On clear days you can see one volcano and 3 glaciers from the house! During winter you could see Northern Lights with a bit of luck- from the hot pot even! The house has everything you might want, including a sauna, books and TV-channels in english, fireplace, rowing machine. Our house stands on 130 hectare. We have 16 horses, 9 chickens and one dog. You would need to look after the very friendly and easy going dog and check on the chickens, which is not a difficult thing. Free top quality eggs! The horses need very little attention and will be out on pasture when we are not home. The location is quite remote and while you can reach good shopping within 30 min. drive you must be comfortable with being out in the middle of nowhere. Iceland is a very safe country, so no worries! (There is an art studio in case you paint!) WE DO NOT EXCHANGE OUR HOME IN THE SUMMERTIME, SORRY: MAIN HORSE RIDING AND HAY MAKING TIME!!! see recommendations!!>

The house is 80 km from the capital Reykjavik. The town of Selfoss is about 30 min. drive away with good food shops and also a cinema. The best part about Iceland is the nature and countryside and you would be right in the middle of it. From the house you can do a number of day trips. You can go and see the original Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall, also called "The Golden Circle Tour", you can visit the Blue Lagoon, or the Skogar waterfall and farming museum, or take the ferry across to the Westman Islands for the day, and much more, information and directions will be in the house. The area around the house is very rural with rough pastures, mostly for sheep and horses. From the house you overlook the river Porsa and Lake Gislholt, as well as seeing up to 3 glaciers and Vulkano Hekla on clear days! Icelanders are generally friendly and helpful and you will be surprised how many speak english. There are walking tracks on our land.
