Description of our house
Our beautiful vacation home has 5 bedrooms plus 1 study with a futon bed, and 3 bathrooms. The house easily sleeps 12. These rooms include two king size beds, one queen bed, two rooms with two twin beds each, and the study with a double futon.
Our home includes upgraded, modern amenities, such as a large kitchen with granite countertops, outdoor BBQ, high-speed internet access, media room with pool table, soaking tub, outdoor decks with outdoor fireplace, flat-screen TVs, DVDs, cozy fireplace that can heat the entire house, and more. Decorated in a Tahoe “mountain-style”, we are nestled among the pine trees on a quiet road backing onto forestry land, with a seasonal stream (May – October) bordering our property.
We have views of the mountains and forest from many of the windows and a great area around the property for kids to play in, during any season. Our family can't decide whether we prefer to spend time there when it's snowing (and we are skiing or sledding all the time) or when it's sunny and warm (and we are rafting, hiking, and biking). For us, it is a year-round oasis of peace and fun outdoor activities.
Please do make sure that you are comfortable with stairs, as the home "climbs" the mountain with one long staircase in the entry and three half-staircases in the house.
Please note: we do not offer exchanges during the Christmas and New Year holidays, as we tend to use the property ourselves to host our own family.

Alpine Meadows is very conveniently located and easy to access from Reno, Sacramento, or San Francisco airports. This quiet valley is peaceful throughout the year, consisting of an equal mix of full-time residents and vacation homes like ours. Depending on the season, you’ll find us hiking up to Five Lakes from the house, exploring on bikes or snowshoes the maze of trails right out our back door (Tahoe Rim Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail), or skiing down the many slopes of Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. On sunny days, we like to spend time at the beach in Tahoe City, where there are lots of restaurants and a lovely playground for children, as well as community-sponsored outdoor music and movies. Or we might raft down the Truckee River from Tahoe City, jumping off at Alpine Meadows and the River Ranch Inn for gorgeous views of the river and delicious food.
Because our home backs up to open space, we have a lot of room for children to play outside at the house itself. We often go sledding behind the house (or at the sledding hill at Alpine Meadows ski resort) and in the Spring/Summer we spend countless hours exploring the creek and the soaking up the sunshine.
If Spring and Summer fun is what you’re looking for, you have only to step out the front or back doors to access hiking and biking trails. We offer seasonal access to a private park with tennis courts, bathrooms, soccer/volleyball fields, and a swimming pond in the summer. We're only about 15 minutes from historic downtown Truckee, or you can try out horseback riding in Alpine Meadows, swimming and golf in Squaw Valley, boating and beaches at Lake Tahoe, or Truckee River rafting within minutes of the house.
You can’t beat the winter sports activities in the quiet and picturesque valley of Alpine Meadows. Ski lift tickets will give you entry to both the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort (5 minutes away) and the Squaw Valley Ski Resort (10 minutes away). Plus, we have a wonderful and free sledding hill just up the road from us.
We provide a detailed binder of information on local resources such as skier and hiker guides, restaurant reviews, spa recommendations, etc to help you plan the perfect vacation. We are conveniently located, only 50 minutes drive from Reno, Nevada, 1.5 hours from Sacramento, and 3.5 hours from San Francisco.
Something about ourselves
We are Scott, Suzanne, Christian, and Adrianna, an outdoorsy family living in Marin County with a fantastic vacation home in Alpine Meadows, CA. We are independent strategy consultants as well as avid hikers, bikers, swimmers, and skiers. We have family in the Netherlands, Boston, Washington DC and are interested in exploring trips to almost any destination, including but not limited to Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Since this is our vacation home, we can offer non-simultaneous exchanges to accommodate your schedule. Our permanent home is in the San Francisco Bay Area, so we tend not to entertain exchange requests in that area. But, we are always open to explore, so feel free to contact us with new ideas.
