Marcali lies in the most popular tourist area of Hungary near the lake Balaton where you can pleasant swimming in the water throughout the summer. Some of the best spas all over Europe, e.g. Héviz, Zalakaros, Kehida, can be found near here, and the spectacular spa of Marcali is also worth mentioning. The spa in Héviz is unique in Europe. You can go hunting in the nearby forests, travel by a small train through the forest in Mesztegnyo or go on a trip to a landscape protection area with a big fishpond in Boronka. You can also visit a lot of historical places e.g. the ruins of a church in Somogyvar, the prehistoric furnace in Somogyfajsz, the tower of Somogyvámos and the famous Festetics castle in Keszthely. You can visit the biggest European Krisna community 20 kilometres from the town. Marcali is 13 kilometres from the biggest lake in Middle-Europe, called Lake Balaton. There is a huge national park with different outing possibilities e.g. a buffalo nature reserve, places for bird-watching, a water-mill, an otter reserve and a small island called Kanyavari sziget. Hungary is rightly famous for its quality wine. There are several excellent wine-districts near the town, e.g. wine district of the northern part of Lake Balaton 30kms wine-district of Szekszard 100kms wine-district of Villany 100kms the world famous wine district of Tokaj 350kms However, some quality wine can be found around Marcali as well. Budapest is it Budapest.

We are Anita and Gabor, a married couple with one 12 years old girl, and two 8 yars old (boy & girl twins) children. We are both professionals (german teacher and fireman) and enjoy travelling when able to get away. We have done a home exchange before in Nürnberg (2008), in Barcelona (2009), Brussel (2010), and Reims (2011) but are always keen to try what sounds a great way to see another country as a resident - and allow someone to see yours. We would expect to arrange an exchange some way in advance in order to get to know our fellow exchangers via email. Attention! Write simply, because I smatter in english, but we are good at German! You can write in this language too!
