Beautiful eighteenth century stone house with pigeonnier tower on the edge of the little hamlet of St Pardoux d'Ans (part of the commune of St Pantaly d'Ans) five minutes walk from the Auvezere river.

The house is substantially built in typical perigourdine style, and has five large bedrooms (three doubles and two twins, two of the doubles are en-suite and the third has a balcony and stairs to the garden), three bathrooms, a very large lounge / dining room with a magnificent stone fireplace and a large and fully equipped breakfast kitchen (hob, oven, microwave combination oven, american fridge-freezer with drinks chiller and ice-maker, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher - with the exception of the hob and oven all the appliances are brand new). The kitchen has french windows which open onto the 1/4 acre garden and a large oak table which seats 10.

We have a new computer with ADSL wi-fi internet. (As an aside, our broadband package includes free telephone calls to Europe and North America).

There is a large garage at the bottom of the garden. Five bikes are available (2 adult, 2 teen and 1 child) together with boules and badminton. There are outdoor table and chairs, sunloungers and hammocks and a large gas bar-b-que. Canoes can be hired in the nearly village of Cubjac (5 mins by car).

Our nearest villages are Tourtoirac and Cubjac. Tourtoirac has a beautiful medieval abbey with gardens that run down to the river. Cubjac is a very pretty village with a stone arched bridge and a man made (sand) beach for swimming in the shallow river. If you prefer to swim, a 10 minute drive to Hautefort will bring you to L'Etang du Coucou a large safe lake for swimming and fishing overlooked by Chateau Hautefort, the most prestigous chateau in the Dordogne.

The Dordogne is considered to be one France's most outstandingly beautiful regions. Bastide towns, antiques fairs, music festivals and more. Beynac, Castelnaud - picture-book stone villages including La Roque-Gageac, Domme, Brantome ('Venice of the Perigord'), Sarlat (has more listed buildings per sq km than any town in Europe), St Front cathedral in Perigueux (UNESCO site).

The Perigord is famous for its gastromy: foie gras; walnuts; confit de canard (duck); truffles (visit the truffle museum and market at Sorges); Cepes. The region is also famous for its wines: Bergerac, Pecharmant, Saussignac and Monbazillac wine estates are quite wonderful. Why not visit the prehistoric paintings at Lascaux? From our garden gate you can explore countless miles of stunning walks through unspoilt forests and countryside, by rivers, lakes and medieval bastide and hillside villages. Or try golf, canoeing, tennis, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, hot air ballooning, microlighting, paragliding, climbing..

We are Richard (consultant clinical scientist and head of nuclear medicine at our nearby city hospital), Kathie (chartered accountant working for a UK bank), Laura (22), Charlie (17) and Edward (16). We have exchanged before.

Richard likes gardening and DIY and, although he was a keen squash player in his 'younger days', is now happy to watch sport instead. Kathie enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, water colour and needlework - as well as more crazy things like skydiving, scuba and abseiling. Laura enjoys travelling, music and spending time with her friends - and is surgically attached to her mobile phone! The boys love all the normal boys stuff - golf, skiing, fishing, football and playing computer / PS games. Charlie is the serious and studious of the two with a dry and witty sense of humour. Eddie is the tall, blonde one - with a string of admiring girls in his wake!

We now have an exchange arranged for summer 2010 in Aruba in the Dutch Antilles.

We have completed (and banked) several home exchanges and can provide references if required.
