Dartmouth is a stunningly picturesque, un spoilt & character-full town on the South coast of Devon. After nearly 10 years we still love exploring the many winding streets & absorbing all the colorful historical houses & architectural details. There are breath taking walks, lots of cosy pubs, river trips, historical houses like Agatha Christie's Greenway or Colleton Fishacre, wonderful day trips with great waterside restaurants like the Winking Prawn in Salcombe or the Anchorstone in Dittasham & many great spots where no matter your age it is fun to drop a crab line & see how quickly you can fill a a bucket! All of which make this a very popular destination.
We live in a tranquil street 5 - 10 minutes walk from the center of the historic & port of Dartmouth with its unique shops & top restaurants. Situated on the south facing side of a valley over the town which presents spectacular views of town & countryside & just 10 minutes from award winning beaches. National trust & English heritage properties, boat trips, crabbing, steam trains, stunning walks means there is always something to do. Dartmoor national park is a short drive. There is a full range of sporting, water sport & tourist activities to do in this very popular town & surrounding area of outstanding natural beauty. We are a family of 4 with 2 children, a girl age 5 & boy age 8. We are both designers/artists, my husband paints http://www.simonhartartist.co.uk Together we run http://www.lovehart.co.uk a brand of products featuring our own designs. We also run 2 holiday lets http://www.dartmouth-selfcatering.co.uk so have flexibility to offer no simultaneous exchanges.
We have studios on either side of the house. We have both taught in the past & ran a popular art gallery for 7 years in the town. We moved from London 10 years ago. We enjoy travel & visited New Zealand Nov - Dec 2006 & had 2 great home exchanges. We enjoy ski holidays, France, Italy & Spain & new places in the UK. Theri grew up in Dorset & we return there as a family often. Always open to travel suggestions or offers!! We have had 8 great home exchanges & made some interesting friends in the process. We so loved the experience of taking care of someone elses cat in Sweden that we now have a cat who is very easy to take care of. We have an interesting terraced garden which has won a 'BALI' award, full of great tropical plants & places to unwind. As we have 2 holiday lets we are familiar with meeting visitors from all over the world & maintaining our holiday lets to a particular standard for our visitors & as a family treating things with care & respect.
We love Majorca & would very much like a sunny beach holiday this year.
Next year we are dreaming about a trip to New York.
UPDATE:- For 2011 we have 3 great exchanges:- Lymington/New Forest for Easter Spain in July & Bulgaria at Christmas. We are getting a Springer Spaniel Pup end of April so do now welcome 2012 exchanges that may like to look after a dog, or she can go to kennels if you prefer.
