Description of our house

Absolutely authentic architect-designed, Cycladic-style house, garden,and interior. Mature large Mediterranean garden with many trees (including large palms)and flowers. On small peninsula on small hill right on the sea, with nearly circular view of sea, Naxos, Paros, Sifnos, and all the picturesque boat traffic. Three beaches at the house and countless all over the island. Water aquamarine, crystal-clear. Safe swimming everywhere. Off the main road, quiet and peaceful, hearing the waves lapping all day. Breezy and dry in summer--never oppressive heat. No language barriers; English extremely widely spoken. Good food, not expensive. Main town Ermoupolis (9 km away, good bus service)has good shopping, tavernas, supermarkets, and cultural events. House has all-year(English-speaking)housekeeper and garden, who meet and assist my exchangers.

Near a country village, with its own access road. Easy walk to close-by village shops and tavernas. Bus stop 5 minutes away, with very frequent service all over the island. Ermoupolis, the main town, is the capital of the Cyclades, so all services are available. Hospital, law courts, air port, sea port, travel agencies, boat and car hire. There are three supermarkets, including a French one. Island settled by Crusaders in 1207, after 4th Crusade. Ano Syros, above Ermoupolis, their settlement, still exists as it was then, lived in, with shops and lively tavernas. City center is classé, a Neoclassical historical site, famous in Greek history. Art Historian. Retired government employee, career spent in Europe. Travel most of the time, therefore house available for non-simultaneous exchange most of the time. I usually spend Dec-May in Australia, NZ, and other nearby warm places. Open for all exchange possibilities, also long-term.
