Lovely timbered bungalow, in leafy suburb of N.Athens, with central Athens and sea to the south, pine-forested mountains to north. The house has beamed ceilings throughout. We had it built in 2002. It has two bedrooms, one full bathroom and one WC/shower. Air-conditioning throughout, a grand piano, high quality speakers, a good collection of books and music. The living area is open plan, with living room, kitchen and dining area leading onto a verandah overlooking a copse of pine trees in a quarter of an acre of land, with seating and table. The house is in a wooded suburb, with almost exclusively newly built villas. There is parking for two cars in the garden.

We are three kilometres from a National Park with mountain walks and pine forests, frequented by wild deer, tortoises and rare bird species. Greece is blessed with too much sunshine, so when we occasionally have snow in winter (usually higher up), it is cause for great merriment in square and parks, and an excuse for neighbourly toings and froings with great pans of hot bean soup. We are 45 mins from central Athens, by express bus and tube; less by car. The Attika Highway, joining the Peleponissos peninsula with Athens, the airport, the Olympic stadium, is 9 km from the house. The Athens-Thessalonika Highway is 8 km away. The scenic drive through the National Park and over Dionysos mountain to the sea and the ancient town of Marathon takes about an hour. Other sandy beaches to the south are 40 mins by car. We have a small shopping complex in the main square, 500m away. It includes a pharmacy, hairdressers, newsagents, general kiosk selling all essential goods, fresh milk and bread. Baker's, greengrocer's and butcher's are 1.5 km away. Larger supermarket is 3k from the house. An ATM of the National Bank of Greece is 500m away. Athens is modern, vibrant city full of ancient masterpieces. You can do just about anything here. The temptation is to walk round ancient ruins, museums, open markets, till you drop. But sitting in open-air cafes looking up at the Acropolis is just as rewarding. Athens is all about contrasts. Visit the new state of the art concert hall, or Calatrava.

I, Sue, am a writer, lately a busy grandmother, always a musician. I am drawn to all places natural, especially coastal or lakeland. Philip is a retired civil engineer who loves walking, sailing and opera. We enjoy exploring new countries and mixing in different cultures, especially European ones. We have lived in Greece for many years and had delightful exchanges in England, Wales, France, Canada, Tallinn and Scotland. We would look after your home as if it were our own, and can supply references. We are looking for exchanges in cooler climes for June, July and August - (could be non-simultaneous) - but are open to offers. We would also like to go to France or Portugal in the spring.
