Our house is clean, well kept and has all amenities. The eldest parts of it date from the late 15th century. We renovated the whole building carefully from 1998 till 2011 conserving the historical parts. A large wintergarden connects two attached house parts and is ready for table tennis matches, dining, reading in the hammock etc. In the back of our house lays a wooden deck with an adjacent natural swimming pond.
A full size glass sliding door separates the wintergarden from dining room if desired. The open plan kitchen is modern with granite tops, gas cooker and big fridge. A huge classical style stove sits between dining room and kitchen bringing warmth and coziness in the winter time. Automatic heating system in all rooms makes heating the stove "free of duty". Floors are paved by hardwood or tiles, marble or terracotta.
Heating support by solar system, waste water recycling system, super insulation etc. make living here convenient and eco-compatible. Professional house care can be arranged for 13 Euro/hr, if needed. Our detached house comprising of two adjoining parts is situated in a village in the greater Berlin Capital Area. Hagelberg is a village in one of the most popular hiking areas of east Germany, the "High Flaeming" a sparsely populated hilly area covered with forests and fields.
We live right at the "highest peak" of the north German lowlands, the "Hagelberg" with 201 m above sea level! There is nothing higher between here and the North- or Baltic sea or the Ural mountains. Still only the locals proudly call this a "Berg" meaning mountain.
Berlin is one "Autobahn" hour away, its 45 min to Potsdam, one hour to Leipzig, one hour to Hanover, 4 hours to Muinch or Hamburg and 3 hours to the lovely baltic sea.
In only 22 years after fall of the "Iron curtain" the "Flaeming" region as well as most of the former GDR area has seen an interesting and encouraging development. Restoration of historical city centers (Leipzig, Dresden), new super-highways, erections of touristic infrastructures like wellness spa and sauna complexes, artificial climbing hall, a 200 km superfine paved skating system (see "Flaeming Skate" in the web), art halls, artists workshops and galeries and much more.
Compared to other areas of people packed Germany the "Flaeming" has plenty of nature with wolves, lynx, eagles, deers and sometimes even elks living here. Also plenty of possibilities for sports and recreational activities like hiking, boating, sailing, horse riding, inlining, trail running, cycling, fishing, hunting, Quad riding etc. etc.
Although living here in general is rural (= quiet) you can have almost every thinkable entertainment, workshops, seminars, festivals, spa treatments or encounters. Potsdam with its historical sites dating from the cold war aera as well as its famous Rokkoko castle "Sanssouci" is near and Berlin with its world famous museums, theatres, history and nightlife is still only one hour ride (also by train) away! Did you know that Berlin has more bridges than Venice? Porsches brand new factory in Leipzig (build by Zaha Hadid) also is worth a visit.
Our multi purpose backyard garden invites for private sunbathing, barbecue, fruit picking (many different), bathing, gardening etc without direct neighbours.
Shopping, hospital, schools, banks etc. are a 5 min ride by car or public transportation in the next city, Bad Belzig. We, Anna Margareta and Christian are married and of Swiss origin. I (Christian) am 51, Anna is 42 years old. We have two kids together, a lovely girl of 3 and a funny boy of 15.
Anna is an education professional, I am entrepreneur in eco-oriented constructing and the internet sector. Our lifestyle is healthy and we are engaged in various social projects. We enjoy sports and travel. Between May 2012 and May 2013 we have a sabbatical year. For our little girls´ comfort we prefer to have long term stays.
We have done 7 exchanges already and are open for many others. Its an exciting experience for us and we are looking forward to meet new swap friends.
