Our apartment is something you won't find easily again in central Berlin. It's an extraordinary, vast place, beautifully restored, with oak parquet floor and whitewashed walls, with stucco in the main rooms and historic wooden floor in the smaller rooms. It' situated in a typical Berlin "Gruenderzeit" house, built around 1900.
The house is located in one of the most desired central Berlin neighbourhoods, directly at Zionskirchplatz. The neighbourhood is so in demand, because it is urban yet at the same time quiet and safe. The population is young, educated, "green" and trendy - many people work in the creative industries. For young families it's just the paradise - many, many children have been born in the past years, there are beautiful playgrounds, many trees and hardly any traffic. Trendy Kastanienallee with its nice little shops and cafés or Mauerpark are just around the corner, and monuments/sightseeing like Hackescher Markt, the wall memorial and museum in Bernauer Str or Museums Island are in walking distance. (more info see below)
We have the sweetest, most helpful neighbours; and the atmosphere in the house is wonderful. The apartment is light and situated in the first floor (The "BelEtage" with high ceilings!), overlooking the beautiful green square with the "Zions Church" (Zionskirche). Wonderful linden trees are nearly stretching out their branches into the living room, and in spring and summer, you hear the birds singing!
We have five rooms plus kitchen, bathroom and corridor:
- 1. vast pentagonal living room with balcony-like oriel (have your coffee there in the morning, enjoy the sun and have the most wonderful beginning of your day),
- 2. Dining room with a big palisander dining table (8 people can dine here) and writing desk,
- 3. Masters Bedroom with one big double bed and art nouveau tile stove (should not be used though), plus stroller's/baby bed
- 4. Childrens room with one sofa bed (for one or two adults or children), toys and books for small girls and boys (some in English)
- 5. working and guest room with sound studio and one single bed
- 6. fully equipped big kitchen with little table for a casual breakfast or coffee
- 7. big bathroom with shower, bath tub, washbasin and toilet
- 8. corridor with bookshelves: many, many books and CDs!
The apartment is suitable for couples or for families, it hosts up to 5 adults or families with up to 4 children (depends on their age): There is one big double bed, one baby bed, one sofa bed which is suitable for two persons (small adults or children), and one bed for an older child or another adult. Additionally, one or more mattresses can be put on the floor, e.g. in the childrens room or in the livingroom.
Upon request, we can also install another double bed in the dining room (then we would shift the dining table to the livingroom). The apartment couldn't be situated better: It's inmidst the preferred neighbourhood on the border of Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, right with a view on a beautiful square with a church and many many trees (The square is called Zionskirchplatz). The apartment is totally quiet, but it's only 1-2 minutes by foot to Kastanienallee with its cafés, cosy little shops and boutiques (no chains, only independent shops!).
We love this extraordinary quarter with its children-friendly atmosphere. There are so many children here that you won't believe it! Three beautiful public playgrounds are just 2 minutes by foot, which are used by well-educated, sophisticated people. In the quarter live many open-minded people from abroad, which you will also meet on the playgrounds and in the cafés.
Around our house, there are only few cars, but (strange enough!) the neighbourhood is at the same time urban and green, safe and cool. With one word: excellent!
In the quarter live many artists and freelancers, many people work in the creative and/or media industry. People over 50 are rare. Most of the people are between 20 and 40 and have an academic background, but look trendy :-) The apartment couldn't be situated better: It's inmidst the preferred neighbourhood on the border of Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, right with a view on a beautiful square with a church and many many trees (The square is called Zionskirchplatz). Maike is 36 and a game designer and writer, Andreas is 45, owns a bar/club and is a sound designer. We are open-minded people with an eco-friendly attitude (the power and the gas in our apartment comes from green energies, for example). We all love music - Maike plays the piano and Andreas electronic instruments.
We have two daughters (born in February 2009 and October 2012).
Sophia, the older one, is a very well-behaved child, she is cautious and wouldn't do any harm to your things. Anyway, we don't let our eye from the children when we are on travel.
We love travelling and getting in contact with the people in other countries. We love to look behind the surface and we want to really understand the social, historic and economic situation of the places where we go.
We also enjoy cooking, authentic villages, ruric restaurants, hiking and biking. Maike is 36 and a game designer and writer, Andreas is 45, owns a bar/club and is a sound designer.
