Description of our house

Our apartment is a loft (about 200 m2 - 2100 sq.ft) ideally located in the « Croix rousse » part of downtown Lyon, in a very quiet street. It is only 2 min walking time to the subway and bus stations. The apartment is from the 19th century, very typical called « Canut », fully renovated in 2007. With 3 floors and a few half-levels, there are many stairs, some of them narrow or steep. The first level is made of a very large open room with the kitchen, dining room and family room plus a half bathroom. Mid-level is the TV room with a large screen, DVD player and Playstation. On the first floor you’ll find the master bedroom with its full bathroom, two large bedrooms and another bathroom, plus a study room on a mid-level. The basement has direct access from the first floor and hosts the washroom, a large playroom and the wine cellar. Our small private yard is equipped with relax chairs and a dining table. Also available are a computer with wireless Internet access, two city bicycles and a one-car garage (car optional, manual shift !). Perfect for a family of 2 to 5 people.

Our neighborhood

Lyon is the second largest city in France ; it is a very dynamic city, one of the outstanding sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage in recognition for its very rich past and well preserved typical old neighbourhoods. There is a large variety of entertainment venues : a very famous music and theater art festival running from June to July in the old roman theater (you don’t want to miss it !), many exhibitions, the bi-annual danse festival taking turn with the contemporary art festival, the Opera, many museums, and much more… not to forget that Lyon is the French capital of gastronomy. Lyon is only 2-hours high-speed train from Paris, and 2 to 4 hours drive from beautiful alps mountains, Provence and French riviera. You will enjoy ‘La Croix-Rousse’, the silk neighbourghood, one of the UNESCO listed sites. ‘La Croix rousse’ has the largest open air farmers’ market of the city, held daily, in a typical and friendly atmosphere, unforgettable memories garanteed! Many bars, restaurants, and shops of all kind, for all tastes, but also the convenience of grocery stores nearby… in short, a lively neighboughood with all the authenticity of a village in the heart of Lyon. Something about ourselves

We are in our forties, with 3 children (Manon-20, a college student, Eliot-16 and Charlie-11). Christine works in Research & Development for the vaccine industry, and Olivier is a writer and film director. We lived for over 6 years in the US (central New Jersey) and enjoyed very much our stay there, as well as all the visits we did in many other states. We continue to travel very often to North America (kids love seeing their old buddies !) with a very special interest in New York city, a magic place. However, we are considering other exchange proposals to discover new countries around the world. We love travelling and have already been in many places. Our exchange dates are mostly the school breaks in France: last week of October (from 10/24/08 to 11/05/08), 2 weeks around Christmas and New Year (from 12/19/08 to 01/05/09), winter break in February (from 02/06/09 to 02/23/09), spring break in April (from 04/03/09 to 04/20/09), and summer time (July/august).
