This is our family holiday home which we have renovated ourselves and spend as much time enjoying it as we can. It is a traditional Catalan village house at the heart of a small village on the main square, and just 15 minutes' walk from Prades, the main town nearby.
It is spread over 4 floors and faces south with glorious views from every room. It has 3 bedrooms (one double, two twins), a kitchen/dining room, living room with terrace/balcony and a modern shower-room plus separate WC. The stairs to the living room are quite steep which makes it unsuitable for people with mobility issues. The floors are wooden throughout and we have a housekeeper so it is always clean and tidy.
Outside we have created a very private garden in the old barn of the house (no roof!) where you can spend all day sun-bathing or cooling off in our plunge pool (3.5m x 3.5m).

Over 300 days of sunshine a year: officially, the sunniest part of France! The weather is great all year round, and provides the perfect base for more extensive exploring. The village is very friendly and many older residents speak Catalan as well as French. There are footpaths and mountain bike trails from the front door, and it's a paradise for walkers and cyclists (both racing and mountain/VTT).
In nearby Prades (1km) you will find all the shops you need, post office, banks, restaurants and cafes. Prades is well served by public transport so there is no need to drive if you don't want to. Every bus and train journey in the region costs just 1EUR, so it's a nice, cheap way to discover the Pyrenees Orientales.
We are 30 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches (Argeles, Barcares, Canet) and 30 minutes from the ski slopes and mountains (Les Angles, Font Romeu, Pyrenees 2000). Nearby you can swim in the lake at Vinca, take a trip on the Petit Train Jaune, enjoy a day of water-rafting on the river, or visit the ancient town of Villefranche-sur-Conflent. There is something for everyone in this part of France.
For art-lovers: Dali museum in Figeras (90kms) and Modern Art Museum in Ceret (55kms). For city-lovers: Carcassonne, famous walled city (120kms), Girona (140kms), Barcelona (200kms) and Perpignan is just 40kms down the valley. We are a grown-up family (mother and two daughters) who spend holidays together, though we all live separately in and around Oxford, UK. Olivia has 2 well-behaved small dogs (miniature schnauzers) which we take with us on holiday. They don't shed hair, or sit/lie on furniture, so they make great pet guests. Nadia is allergic to cats, though, so sadly we cannot consider anywhere with cats. We'd be happy to take care of other animals if needed.
Because we travel by car with our dogs, we cannot consider anywhere outside Europe at the moment. We arranged our first two very successful exchanges in 2012 which we loved, and are looking forward to discovering more destinations in 2013. We look forward to hearing from you!
