Our house is situated on the Souillac Country Golf course on the border of the Dordogne and Lot regions of France. It is actually on the 18 hole course next to the 11th tee (but not too close). Within the 120 acre golf course and forest you can use 2 swimming pools within a 30 second walk, play tennis on the 2 tennis courts or relax in the on site restaurant. The house is built to a high specification and we have equipped it with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We have Freeview TV with English channels. CD's, books and games. We have a web site ( http://www.dordognegolf.co.uk where we have included more photos and also what to do in the surrounding area. There isn't internet in our home as the club has WI FI in the reception or bar/restaurant for which there is a small charge. We have been told that the golf course is Par 67 (we do not play golf) and is quite hilly and surrounded by trees. We have been told that the course is challenging. Here you are, in a magical place, where you can stay for a day, a weekend, a week or a month. However long you choose to spend here, whatever kind of holiday you want, whatever your age, within a radius of 60 kilometers you'll be able to find what you're looking for beautiful old buildings, a rich cultural heritage, lovely landscapes, good food and wine, activities, entertainment, everything you could wish for.
Where the Lot, the Corrèze and the Dordogne meet, the Souillac Area provides you with a convenient base.
You can explore the Dordogne Valley in the Lot, an Area of Art and History ; going through Martel, the Town with Seven Towers, you come to Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire, three of the most beautiful villages in France, not forgetting Bretenoux and Castelnau Castle, St. Céré at the foot of the mediaeval towers of St. Laurent, and Montal Castle.
A little trip to Lacave will draw you on to Rocamadour, one of France's most visited attractions, where history, beliefs and legends are inextricably entwined, a must for many pilgrims; and Padirac chasm, where you can glide through the subterranean galleries in a small boat.
The Lot also has Cahors and the Valentré Bridge, Figeac and the Champollion World Writing Systems Museum, and St Cirq Lapopie perched on a cliff overlooking the Lot, to be going on with.
To the west, the Dordogne flows into Périgord, with Sarlat only 25 km away and superb villages all along the river, which you can see from a gabare (replica of one of the old cargo boats). There are also a thousand-and-one castles, internationally-known prehistoric sites, Lascaux being the prime example, and Les Eyzies, a window wide open on to prehistory. Pay a visit to the Gardens of Eyrignac as you wend your way back to the Souillac area.
To the north and north-east lies the Corrèze with its sub-prefecture, Brive; Turenne, where the stands proud on its limestone outcrop; Collonges-la Rouge, a village built of red sandstone; Curemonte, the village with three castles and three churches, Beaulieu sur Dordogne.
A particular attribute of our site is the quiet. The only sounds you hear are birdsong and gentle rustling of the trees. There are 19 houses in our hamlet which makes it very quiet (forget the rat race) and the air is so pure(no traffic fumes). We are always amazed at night at seeing the number of stars as there is little light pollution. We bought the house because of the picture postcard area. There is so much to do in the surrounding area as well. Medieval towns/villages, chateaux, castle, grottes, caves, prehistoric sites, swimming, canoeing, gardens and adventure parks,.
A new airport has opened (Brive/Souillac) which is only 10 minutes from our house. Other airports are Limoges and Bergerac. The motorway is also situated very near by, it is 4 hours to Paris by car. The TGV train from Paris stops at Brive. Here you are, in a magical place, where you can stay for a day, a weekend, a week or a month. We retired in 2011. I previously worked for Rolls Royce for 24 years and my wife Pam worked as an Occupational Health Advisor. We have one daughter Helen who works as a chartered surveyor and her partner Ben is a professional photograher. If possible Helen and Ben may want to join us for a holiday.
We want to travel and see as much as possible other cultures as far as our finances permit. Because it is our second home it is available all year round and therefore we can exchange at any time.
We bought the house in 2005 as there is so much to do and see in the area. There are 100s of Chateaux/castles and every time we visit we find something new. We have made our house a home from home. We are all non-smokers and respect other peoples homes and belongings.
We are open for all dates and also to non simultaneous exchange. We have exchanged a few times and have always recieved very good postive feedback on our home.
