Our house, together with the 2 self-catering apartments (or gîtes), are located at the end of a winding mountain road - altitude 800 m. Surrounded by pastures and woods, the house and gîtes enjoy magnificent views of the Pyrenées and are very quiet and peaceful;
The house is a 19th century mountain farmhouse built of traditional materials (stone, wood and lime with slate roof). We restored it 10 years ago as sensitively as possible in order to retain its rustic charm and appearance. Cool in summer and warm in winter, the house is welcoming and very functional.
House contents:
Ground floor (1st floor US)
- a spacious sitting/ dining room with a large open fire; a large, well-equipped kitchen adjoining the sitting room; a cold room (for food storage); a laundry/ storage room ; a toilet
First floor (2nd floor US):
- a large bedroom with double bed and a TV corner with large sofa/ settee (TV receives French and English channels) and access to balcony; a smaller bedroom with 1 and a half-sized bed and access to balcony; a large bathroom.
Second floor (3rd floor US):
- a large, well-lit attic converted into bedroom divided into 3 rooms with cloth partitions. Three single beds and one double futon.
Note: if desired, a car could be part of the home exchange (note that there is only manual gear shift).
Attached to the end of the house is a small self-contained apartment (“Le Petit Gîte/ Studio”) that we rent out in summer time.

Notre maison et nos 2 gîtes se trouvent au bout d'une petite route sinueuse de montagne à 800 mètres d'altitude. Entourés de champs et des bois la maison et les gîtes bénéficient d'une superbe vue sur la chaine des montagnes Pyrénéenes. La nature y est sauvage, et le silence présent. On se sent au bout du monde!
La maison est une ancienne ferme rénovée construite avec les matériaux traditionnels (la pierre, le bois, la chaux et les ardoises). Nous l’avons restorée il y a 10 ans en gardant son caractère ancien. Frais en été et chaud en hiver, la maison est confortable, chalheureuse, accueillante, rustique, facile et très agréable à vivre.
Rez-de-chaussé (premier étage E-U) :
• Une grande pièce de vie / salle à manger avec une grande cheminée ouverte; la cuisine est également de taille, bien équipée et fait presque partie de la pièce de vie; une chambre froide pour stocker la nourriture; une buanderie (notez qu’il n’y a pas de machine sèche-linge); des toilettes.
Premier étage (deuxième étage E-U) :
• Une grande chambre avec un lit double et un coin TV avec un sofa (la TV reçoit les chaines françaises et anglaises) et accès au balcon; une chambre avec un lit une place et demie et accès au balcon; une grande salle de bain.
Deuxième étage (troisième étage E-U) :
• Un grenier aménagé avec 2 séparations en tissu. Il comprend 3 lits simples et un futon double
Nous pouvons mettre une voiture à disposition (notez qu’il n’y a pas de vitesses automatiques).
En prolongement de la maison se trouve un petit gite/studio (« Le Petit Gîte de Pinsou ») que nous louons l'été.

The hamlet of Pinsou consists of 4 houses, all of which are reasonably distant from each other. Our 2 neighbours are very friendly and willing to be of any assistance. Pinsou is 10 minutes drive from the picturesque village of Aleu, and 20 minutes drive from the nearest villages with shops selling the basics. 30mins. drive away is the town of St. Girons with large shops and supermarkets and its Saturday market - not to be missed for its excellent local produce. The city of Toulouse is 90 mins. drive away.
Mountain walks of varying distances and for all ages and abilities are possible from the front door. But for walks in the high mountains a drive of 30-45 minutes is necessary to reach the point of departure.
Other activities within the locality: horse riding, donkey trekking, canoeing and rafting, mountain climbing, visits to caves, bicycling, paragliding, and swimming in the local rivers. There are also numerous village festivals during the summer months.
In winter, snow shoeing and tobogganing are possible around the house depending on the snow conditions. Otherwise there are the family-friendly ski resorts of Guzet (for downhill skiing) and the Etang de l’Hers (for cross-country skiing), both 45 minutes drive from the house.
In wintry conditions, a snow plough comes once or twice a day, but snow chains are a good idea.

A ne pas manquer: le marché à St. Girons du samedi matin!
De nombreuses randonnées de distances et niveaux différents sont possible à partir de la maison. Il faut prendre la voiture pour le départ des randonnées en haute montagne (30-45 minutes).
Autres activités à proximité: équitation, ballades avec ânes, rafting, canoë, parapente, escalade, pêche, baignades en rivière, visite de grottes. Il y a également de nombreuses fêtes et animations en été dans les villages.
En hiver, la station de ski de piste (Guzet) et la station de ski de fond (Etang de l'Hers) sont à 45 minutes en voiture. Les randonnées raquettes sont possible selon l'enneigement. En cas de neige, le chasse neige passe tous les jours mais les chaines sont conseillés.

We are a tri-national (Canadian, British, French), bilingual family (French and English) with 3 girls aged 13, 11 and 8 years. We love to travel and are open to all offers. Since we live in the mountains, homes located close to the sea or water would provide the greatest contrast!
John is a social anthropologist who lectures/ trains in intercultural management and communications. Sandrine is a photographer who also gives workshops in local schools.
Whether having friends stay in our house or guests staying in our gîtes, we try to ensure a stay that is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. We also appreciate when people look after our house/ gîtes, so we would do the same for yours.
