Our home is a 300 year old stone cottage (with later additions) and has lots of exposed stonework/beams, flagged floors, and other period features including the orginal inglenook fireplace now fitted with a woodburner. According to the old ordnance survey maps of the area the house used to be a small farm. (The stone walled courtyard to the left of the house is what remained of the old pig sties!) The house is centrally heated and double glazed. We have 32" LCD TV with home cinema in the lounge, TV's in all the bedrooms, DVD player(s) and a Wii (inc WiiFit). We have lots of books, games and DVDs. Downstairs we have a sitting room with exposed stone walls, beams, inglenook fireplace and leather suite, a large entrance hall/sitting room with two leather chairs and a large victorian style conservatory with dining table and chairs (seating six), dresser, leather sofa and easy chair. Upstairs there are four bedrooms - one large double bedroom with canopied bed and french windows onto a private area of the garden (the house is split level), a double bedroom and two single bedrooms. Both double beds are new and all beds have new high quality memory foam pocket sprung mattresses. We also have a 'Z' bed. Externally there is an acre of garden - a mixture of formal gardens, patios, orchard, vegetable plot and a wooded area. We have a gas bar-b-que and a large circular teak outdoor table, parasol and chairs seating 6. In the private area of the garden is another table and four chairs.

![]() Our neighborhood
Our home is situated between Leek and Stoke-on-Trent on the edge of the beautiful Peak National Park. The house is on a narrow lane with lots of lovely walks nearby and stunning view across the valley. Although it is tucked away, so 'passing traffic' is most likely to be dog walkers or horses, it is easy to get into town (by car or public transport) and pubs, newsagents, post office, shops, hairdresser etc are all within easy walking distance (so semi-rural). We have lots of canals in our area - one goes through our village and has a lock just a 5m walk from the house. There are lots of country pubs near the house - one on the side of the canal so you can see the long boats mooring up. Stoke-on-Trent (known as 'the Potteries') is world famous for its china (Wedgwood, Doulton, Moorcroft...to name a few). Many of the factories allow you to tour and watch the very skilled craftsmen and women. Leek is famous for its antique shops. We are just a few minutes drive from the pretty Peak villages (film setting for Pride and Prejudice) + 35m from Alton Towers (UK's biggest theme park). Chatsworth, Shugborough, Kedleston, Speke Hall, Tatton Park, Haddon Hall, Biddulph Grange Gardens, Erdigg, Powys Castle, the Roman town of Chester, Ironbridge Gorge are all within 1hr drive. Drive another hour or so and you can get to the N Wales coast, Snowdonia, Lake District, Yorkshire, Shakespeare country, Cotswolds... By train Manchester is 45m, Birmingham 1h, London 1h 35m, York 2h 20mins Something about ourselves
We are Richard (consultant clinical scientist and head of nuclear medicine at our nearby city hospital), Kathie (chartered accountant working for a UK bank), Laura (22), Charlie (16) and Edward (14). We have exchanged before. ![]()
