Description of our house

Our house is in one of the most sought after and beautiful streets in Highgate, moments from the tube station, situated between two ancient Woods (Queens and Highgate), it really is a wonderful comfortable and luxurious place to be. The house is Victorian, built in the 1850's but has been completely renovated by us a couple of years ago. There are four bedrooms (one a study but with kingsize sofabed) and another bedroom in the Garden room. Our main bedroom has a Super Kingsize bed with a walk through closet. There are two small double bedrooms and two kingsize sofabeds (study and Garden room). The Garden room/Summer house has it's own bathroom, there is one bath/shower room in the main house, a second wetroom with shower and a downstairs loo. We have a beautiful double sitting room with a working fireplace and one end of which overlooks the garden, but we do spend most time in the kitchen/dinning room which is the heart of the house. There is a small laundry room and a lovely study which leads onto the garden and which houses our Steinway piano & books. The garden is grassed with a wisteria over the pergola and mature trees but has a patio area with table and chairs as well as an outdoor heater and barbeque. The house is not overlooked and the garden is a private place relax. We built the Garden room as a study but it really is self contained with it's own wet room/ shower, a fridge, coffee machine and surround sound stereo TV & dvd system.

Highgate is in the north of London and close to the village and famous Highgate cemetary. It's also a short walk to Hampstead Heath which is one of the finest city parks in the world. Our house is adjacent to two ancient Woods. Queens Wood and Highgate Woods which are lovely green places to explore. Muswell Hill and Crouch End are our two local shopping areas easily reached within ten minutes but excellent shops including a useful Delicatessen are at the top of our street. Highgate Village is a beautiful place where Dickens, Coleridge and Francis Bacon once lived and where many celebrities now make luxurious homes. The wonderful thing about where we live is that you can be in Oxford Circus in the bustle of cosmopolitan London in 20 minutes using the Underground "Tube" train which is situated quite literally at the top of our street. You get the best of both worlds - access to the city and a home in a beautiful village. The connection at Kings Cross (15-20 minutes) can take you to the Olympic Park in 7 minutes, and Paris in 2.5 hours! We are lucky to be surrounded by neighbours who are our friends and the area really is a safe and caring community. There are cinemas close by, tennis clubs, golf clubs, good shopping locally and also some excellent gastro pubs in the village only five minutes walk... but then there is London on your doorstep which offers everything anyone could want from a city. Something about ourselves

We are a family of four. Andrew is a lawyer, Lucy is a Film Producer and our two teenagers are Oscar (17) and Frances (14) who go to school in the village. Oscar is a musician so we try to stay where there is a piano but it's not essential. We have travelled quite a bit with our children and like to stay in houses as it means we can really immerse ourselves into the place we are visiting. Last year we had a wonderful stay in France which we'd like to repeat sometime. One thing we certainly hope to find is a place for next Christmas (2012) in Auckland New Zealand as my brother is getting married. We would be travelling with another couple (my other brother) and are hoping to find a house for us all to stay in if we can find New Zealanders who fancy Christmas in London?! But we are open to offers and maybe during the Olympics... Frances wants to visit Hawaii, we are keen on California but we are interested to hear from you so please ask. Because we have teenagers who are still at school we are somewhat restricted to school holidays. In the UK that's Mid December -Ist week Jan, March/April and July & August. ![]()
