Description of our house
[
![]() ]
Our home is a semi-detached house built in 1930, still retaining some original deco touches (such as leaded windows in the hallway). It's light, airy, spacious and a wonderful family home. We've done a huge amount of work on the house since moving in 6 years ago, most recently converting the two back rooms downstairs into a large kitchen diner. The stylish new kitchen looks out onto our pride and joy - the garden (a wasteland when we moved in!), which contains a sweeping flower border, a vegetable and fruit garden (you're welcome to help yourself to any produce during your stay) and a towering willow hiding a large trampoline, swing and slide. Upstairs are three bedrooms (one with a super kingsize double, another with a kingsize double and the third containing bunkbeds for the kids and a sofabed that pulls out into another double - meaning that we could sleep 10 in total at a push). There's also a 4th small bedroom that we use as an office.

Forest Hill is a lively, multicultural district of South London that has really come into its own in the last few years. Our house is 3 minutes walk from the centre, which contains a range of shops (including a good sized Sainsbury's and an excellent butcher), pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and a brand new swimming pool. There's a small supermarket at the end of our road, which stocks all the basics. There are even more places to eat, drink and shop in East Dulwich, just a 5-minute drive or bus ride away. Forest Hill even has its own superb museum, the Horniman, which is brilliant for kids, and sits in its own beautifully landscaped gardens atop a hill with stunning views out over the city. ![]() Something about ourselves

We are Jon and Selena, a primary school teacher and a psychiatric nurse, in our mid 40s, and we have two lovely, lively boys, Joe (9) and Charlie (6). We've completed five highly successful home exchanges (Berlin, Madrid, the Ardennes, Barcelona, western France) and have recently arranged a stay in Copenhagen for Summer 2013. ![]()
