Church Cottage is a semi-detached Victorian cottage dating from 1840 that sits snugly in a village hamlet, in beautiful, quiet, typically English countryside. It is less than 1 hour to London. We have lovingly restored Church Cottage over the past 2 years and there are still small jobs we need to complete! It has an open plan living and dining area with a large kitchen. As well as there being a wood-burning stove in the living room, we also have a working open fire place in the dining room which joins a large kitchen, warmed by underfloor heating. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a King-sized bed, the second bedroom has a double bed and in the third bedroom, there are 2 single fold out beds. The garden is south facing and is walled on two sides. We have a veggie patch at the bottom of the garden, from which you can hear the church bells whilst sitting on the bench. There is also a wooden garden room with a log burner in which you can sit cosily and enjoy the garden.

The cottage is across the road from a 12th century church and is on the edge of the famous Dedham Vale, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Dedham Vale is where one of England's most famous painters, John Constable, lived and painted, and the Vale is full of quaint English villages such as Dedham, Nayland and Boxford. If you like walking or cycling then there are lots of beautiful trails which you can take, with many taking you via some of the area's best country pubs. Even though it sits in a rural location, the house is only a 10 minute drive from Colchester, the UK's oldest recorded town and a vibrant, bustling university town. From Colchester, it is a 50 minute train ride to London, making it easy for day trips to all of London's tourist attractions. Other famous places within easy reach include Cambridge - 1 hour, and Lavenham - 30 minutes. It is also just half an hour to the English coast, with Aldeburgh and Mersea nationally famous for their Fish & Chips and Oysters respectively. ![]() Something about ourselves

Mark and I are both teachers in our early 30s. Mark is a History teacher at a local secondary school and I teach in a local primary school. We love to travel and though we haven't done a home exchange before we have friends who have done them and have highly recommended them. As we are teachers we are tied down to school holidays, but we are potentially able to offer non-simultaneous exchanges if you wish to visit our lovely part of the world in our school term times. We have a cat called Claude who is extremely friendly. He visits all our neighbours' houses and likes to walk around the Churchyard with us. He'll probably come with you too! ![]()
