Description of our house

My house was completely rebuilt in 1988.It is South facing and on a quiet road less than 10 minutes walk from Chester City Centre, and only 5 minutes from the walls and racecourse. It used to be the stables of the big house next door. As the living room is upstairs it is very light and airy. There is one long (wood-floored)living room/dining room (I have a big double futon-settee in the living room) and a kitchen upstairs. The living room can be curtained off for more privacy.Downstairs is the main bedroom with French windows opening onto the garden. In a curtained off area there is a single bed plus a camp bed. The bathroom is also downstairs(no shower)There is a spiral staircase inside (so not suitable for small children), and outside there are steps up to the double doors which are on the balcony. There is a large walled garden. Not super-modern (no Sky T.V., no D.V.D.) but with lots of character. I also own the other cottage on the same plot, but this is rented out long term to a young couple. You may not even meet them.

Our neighborhood

Chester is South of Liverpool, on the Welsh border. I live between the River Dee, and the Shropshire Union Canal,5 minutes walk from the Walls and the racecourse, in a quiet street. My local shops are 200 metres away and include most things you could need, a small supermarket, "off-licences",various "take-aways",a chip-shop, 2 cafes, 3 pubs, one of which,(Telford's Warehouse)has live music 3 or 4 nights a week. This is before you even get into the city.Everything in Chester is close by, it only takes about 25 minutes to walk right across the city. It is a beautiful city, with 2,000 years of history, a Roman Wall (which you can walk along) right around the city, an amphitheatre, the River Dee,Chester Races (May to September at "The Roodee", 5 minutes walk from my house),the Zoo,lots of shops (the Rows, shops on 2 levels dating back 700 years)),a 1000 year-old Cathedral, and many places to eat. We are close to Liverpool (European City of Culture 2008, and home to the Albert Dock, a world Heritage Site), Manchester and the Welsh Mountains. The trains to Liverpool take 35 minutes, Manchester about 50 mins.Economy airlines fly to Liverpool and Manchester from all over Europe. There is no need of a car here, unless you want to get right off the beaten track. To see some of the attractions of Chester visit the website www. visitchester.com or www.busybus.com will show you some of the other places you can visit near here. Wikipedia is good too.

Something about ourselves

My name is Wendy and I am a retired (primary-school) teacher aged 62. I would like to go to East Cambridge (Cherry Hinton area)over the last weekend in July. I love the Folk Festival at Cherry Hinton, but I'm getting fed-up with camping !!. So if there's anyone out there who's fed-up with the "Folkies" this is your chance to get away.I would love to explore the area around Cambridge. I haven't really managed that yet. I like architecture, history, ambling about, museums, art galleries, music, swimming, socialising, and reading, so if anyone out there (except Australia, N.Z., USA, Canada) wants to do an exchange with me at any time of the year, contact me. Although I can drive, I don't really enjoy it, so places where a car is not needed would be ideal. I like places with water (sea, harbours, lakes, rivers etc.) as I find water very relaxing, to swim in, sail on, or just watch. I will not be exchanging my car as it's only insured for me to drive. I do smoke, but only about 5 cigarettes a day. I am trying to quit. I would smoke outside if you wished.
