Description of our house
[
![]() ]
The house is a lovely old 'patricier villa', a traditional Danish style, built 1928. Very open and light, and full of books (English and Danish). It has two terraces opening onto 1200 metres of garden front and back, with hammock between the apple trees, barbeque, etc. There is a railway line behind us, but good neighbours on either side and tennis club courts in front. As well as the two floors there are 110 metres of basement, with a washing room, extra shower and toilet, teenage hangout with satelite TV, playstation 3, drum kit, instruments, table football, etc. People say our house is 'lækkert' (literal translation - delicious). There is a separate TV room (not shown) and living room on the ground floor.

Hellerup lies about 6 km from Copenhagen centre on the northern shore. It is a rich leafy suburb, but retains a bohemian atmosphere, with good shopping, cafes and restaurants, galleries, a harbour, marinas, etc. There are woods and an arboretum 10 minutes walk away and a beach 15 minutes walk away. The delightful coast road to Helsingør (Elsinor, setting for Hamlet!) starts about a kilometer from the house. Sweden is close (within sight of the shoreline), so you can also visit Malmø (by the beautiful Oresund's Bridge),or Helsingborg and Gotenburg (by 20 minutes ferry ride). Copenhagen is one of the great capitals of the world, but compact and easy to navigate. The Danes are Scandinavians but in a rock'n'roll way - and virtually all of them speak good English. There is a lot to see, do and visit around here and you have our car and bicycles to help you on your way... ![]() Something about ourselves
