Description of our house
Our newly-built Spanish-style home is designed for comfort and privacy amidst Costa Rican hospitality. Situated in the Central Valley, 40 minutes northwest of the capitol city of San Jose and 20 minutes from the international airport, we enjoy wonderful vistas of sugar cane & coffee plantations. Our 2500 ft elevation ensures lovely breezes for daytime comfort and perfect nighttime sleeping without the need of air conditioning. The house is designed for indoor and outdoor living with vaulted ceilings throughout. The living, dining, office & kitchen areas are found in a hexagon-shaped Great Room (which peaks at 20 ft), with the master bedroom/bath wing on one end and two guest bedrooms/bath on the other end. The master bedroom is king-size, one guest bedroom configures to either king or twin and the other is a queen-sized sofa bed.
Covered terrazas double the living space for outdoor dining, laundry facilities, and studio/workshop - 1400 sq ft inside and 1400 sq ft outside. Stained glass and other artwork is abundant. The custom kitchen offers all the latest appliances, including microwave & dishwasher.
Maid (Monday to Friday, 3 hours daily) and gardener are included. And, the house is totally wheelchair accessible. Dusty the friendly cat awaits your visit. Our maid will look after his needs if you are away overnight.

Our neighborhoodOur private 1-1/4 acres plunge down to the Rio Rosales, uniquely situated in the midst of a lovely 17-acre, quiet, gated bed & breakfast property (www.mimosa.co.cr) whose gardens and pool we enjoy. Our property is totally private and yet companionship is close by.
The neighbourhood is rural, volcanoes and distant mountains in every direction. We are 10 minutes by car from the small, bustling city of Grecia (pop: 15,000) which offers every amenity. Bus service is hourly. The Saturday morning farmers' market is not to be missed!
From this central location you can access all of the tourist attractions and eco-adventures that Costa Rica is famous for - on day trips or overnight. The closest beach, Jaco on the Pacific coast, is about a 90 minute drive; Arenal Volcano an overnight trip; Manuel Antonio, Monteverde & Tortuguero parks overnight(s) in different directions. How about white water rafting or a canopy zip line tour?
Locally, San Jose offers theatres, galleries & wonderful international dining. Within an hour's drive, you can also enjoy Poas Volcano, Le Paz Waterfall Gardens, Rain Forest Aerial Tram, bird zoo, serpentarium, botanical gardens, butterfly gardens, coffee tours and much more.
It's a bird lovers paradise - most recent count 80 species on our property alone.
Not to mention just simply sunning and relaxing in a hammock or by the pool!

Something about ourselvesOur plans are made for 2008. South Africa, Greece, Tuscany & Provence are all destinations we have in mind for a visit some time in 2009 or later.
We are Canadians who have retired (almost) to Costa Rica to escape the snow! Iain is in the field of Project Management and still conducts a few training deliveries in Toronto each year. Joan retired from a career in public relations/marketing and enjoys time here pursuing her artistic endeavours and charitable/social activities, of which there are many.
Costa Rica is a fast developing, democratic nation (admittedly bureaucratic), with wonderful warm people. 'Pura Vida!, meaning The Good Life, the expression you hear daily everywhere you go, says it all!
