Our home is comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated with antiques and 'shabby chic' furnishings and an exceptional collection of Northwest Aboriginal art. We are in a lovely suburban area that is close to downtown, to the airport and ferry terminals. Our garden is an oasis with a pond full of friendly fish. Downtown Victoria easily accessible on public transit, a beautiful lake and golf course (golf clubs available too) are within walking distance, as are hiking trails, two lakes, ocean beaches(5 kms), restaurants, cultural attractions, and air & ground transportation. The famous Buchart Gardens is only 10 minutes away. There is easy access by ferry to the many other Gulf Islands and to the mainland and Vancouver.
We will consider a car exchange (we have done this successfully in the past) and we have a 23 foot motor-home that we could possibly make available for camping or travelling here in BC. (It is an older model in very good shape).
We are mature responsible non-smokers who take excellent care of our surroundings and we are experienced exchangers. We will consider all offers and shorter term exchanges. We love all parts of France, Spain and especially want to visit the Basque region but would consider any offers including Eastern Europe, Asia, or South America. We would love an exchange in Quebec also, so if you are interested in Victoria, B.C. please let us know. About 1 kilometer from our house (an easy walk) is a public library and community recreation center with an indoor public swimming pool and full gym. A 9-hole golf course is next to the community center. Also within walking distance are two lakes surrounded by hiking trails and beaches. A lovely ocean beach is just minutes away by car. There are many other full 18-hole golf courses nearby (we have golf clubs for your use if you are golfers). A shopping area is very close by within easy walking distance with restaurants, bakeries, groceries and much more. We are Gail and Dan. I am retired from a professional career and am now a personal chef on a part-time basis. Dan is a Denturist and is also semi-retired. I am originally from the U.S and immigrated to Canada years ago. It is a wonderful country. Dan was born in Newfoundland, on Canada's east coast, but he too has made the west coast home for many years. We are non-smokers and would not want any smoking inside our home. We are clean and responsible and look after our exchange home as if it were our own.
We are devoted to good food, and you will find a comprehensive library of cookbooks (hundreds of books and magazines on every kind of food - especially French cooking) in our home. If you like to read about food, this is the place for you.
We prefer not to travel in the summer to avoid big crowds and lineups and we have a vegetable garden to tend in the summer. We find travelling in spring or fall much more enjoyable. We like to arrange our exchanges well in advance in order to get to know our exchange partners through email. We would love to explore a longer term exchange and would consider anywhere. We are also open to shorter exchanges as well (Seattle or Portland would be great). We have done quite a few successful exchanges and love this way of seeing the world.
