The apartment includes cleaning services daily - a plus when at the beach. The sea, ancient geological stone towers, restaurants, grocers, a lake, the piazza with its fairs, pharmacies, shopping, and cafes are at short walking distances. The flat has a balcony with sea views, marble counter-top bathroom, fully equipped kitchen with granite counter-tops, and a microwave. The integrated living room has a TV & DVD player, and a full-size sofa-bed. You may either enjoy the pool or relax in the sauna. The building also has a gym, a game room, a playground area, 24-hour doorman, and 2 elevators/lifts. The language spoken is Portuguese, most people speak Spanish and a number of locals in this paradisaical place can communicate in English and Italian. People are known for being friendly. Savory barbecues are a staple. I shall point out whom to go to in case you wish bilingual people around. Euros and dollars go a long way. The state capital, Porto Alegre, is near, as well as Gramado and Canela, the famous mountain towns, along with the Wine Route with its vineyards and tastings. Canyons also await. Torres is a perfect balance between urban comforts and closeness to a spectacular ecosystem, and is safe for locals and visitors.

A few foreigners have discovered Torres, the most beautiful beach in the RS state. It holds a complete ecosystem: 17 beaches from calm to brave, dunes, untouched Atlantic Rain Forrest, waterfalls, a lake, and the only ecological reserve island in Brazil with sea lions and marine wolves. Franca whales and their off-spring can be seen from May-October. Wondrous canyons and wonderful hikes are a short trip away (local agencies w/ English-speaking guides can take you there).There are plenty of restaurants, cafes (w Internet), a few night clubs, libraries, crafts fairs, etc. Porto Alegre, the capital, is 2.5 hours away. UN rates it with quality of life equivalent to the best European cities. POA has hosted the 1st and 2nd editions of the World Social Forum, and it is known for the two local soccer teams that have won World Club Cups. Gramado, also 2+ hours away, attracts nationals and foreigners alike (check it out!). Back to Torres: it has four fantastic 40-meter high rock formations that fall into the sea, with caves created by the action of the waves along the years. These rock formations rise up from the meeting point between the mountains and the sea making a beautiful viewing landscape. It also has a few grand beaches for surfing: some of the best Brazilian surfers are from here. Fishing is also popular. Torres hosts the Sea Goddess Festival (Festa de Iemanja')and is the Brazilian Capital of Hot Air Balooning. Something about ourselves

Your "house speaker" is Marjana, a classically-trained Brazilian/American cellist. My husband is a federal judge and our family lives in Brazil; we love the arts, adore our good friends and our pets, and enjoy traveling. We hope to unveil our region's beauty to like-minded people, while learning about the place where their heart is.
