Description of our house

Our house is a lovely, modern independant villa (designed by the well known Belgium Architect Jo Crepain (1950-2008). The ground floor is very practical, spacious and with beautiful stone floors with underfloor heating. Upstairs we have 4 bedrooms all with wooden floors and two full bathrooms (the guest bathroom has a double shower no bath). Down stairs we have another office/bedroom with a big fully equipped bathroom and a double American sofa bed and an extra single bed. The master bedroom (upstairs) has a big king size bed. In the guest rooms upstairs you will find: a queen size bed, two beds (just new and very big) and in the childrens bedroom there are bunck- beds. All the bedrooms upstairs have airconditioning and also the office/bedroom downstairs. The kitchen is semi open and very well equipped with typical Belgium style a special frying pan to make French fries. We also have a small cellar for wine and storage. We have a separate wash kitchen for the dryer, washing machine, ironing board, and a full size sink. There is a double garage as well was a single car-garage. The garden (2750 square meters) is lovely, with several areas to sit down, relax or eat. Chairs, table, gas-BBQ are all available. We also have a swing and more play things in the garden for younger children. Weekly cleaning lady available. As a real Dutch family we avail of some 5/6 bicycles, plus two for kids up to 7/8.

Our house is situated in a residental area, quiet and with a lot of trees and green around. Walking and cycling in the neighbourhood and the adjacent woods is a great pleasure. A supermarket is at walking distance and in the village there are smaller shops for bread, meat, fish ,cheese and more, the best in the neighbourhood! Schilde was selected in 2009 as the most beautiful village in the Provence of Antwerp. There is a Open Golf club in Brasschaat (10 min by car). In the next village (Schoten)is a big public swimming pool. In the next village Wijngegem you will find a big American style shopping mall. The city of Antwerpen is 20 min by car and offers everything you want from shopping, culture, sight-seeing and restaurants. Also we have some very good restaurants in our village. We are a semi-retired couple, Dutch nationals. Frank is 72 years old and retired from a big Dutch Multinational in January 2002. Willemijntje is 68 years old and a free-lance journalist who still works for Belgian and Dutch magazine and news-papers with the help of husband Frank. March 2002 we moved from the USA back to Europe (Belgium). Before that we lived in Canada and Japan. We have two children (happely married and six grand-children). We travelled a lot during our active working life. For the summer of 2012 (starting june/july) we have already found an exchange with a nice Canadian family. For the Spring of 2012 April/May we would love to exchange our house with a family in France ( Paris, South of France, Vendee or elswere). We need at least 3 bedrooms and preferable 2 bathrooms as our grand-children will travel with us during Spring break. We also have a 85 square meters appartment in the best part of The Hague, The Netherlands, at 15-20 minutes from the beach by bicycle, which we might "include in the deal". For the summer of 2013 we would love to exchange our big Belgian house with a similar house in Tokyo. Please e-mail us! Thank you!
