Australia early 2014 Other destination all year round
We live in possibly the best part of town here in Graz, Austria's second-biggest city. In 2003, Graz was European Capital of Culture and has always been renown for its cultural offer (opera house, classical concerts, museums etc.), its many students (around 50.000 form all around the world) and for its Italian charme.
We bougt the house in 1999 and have done extensive refurbishment back then as well as two years ago. One could definitley describe it as luxurious; there are four floors, a double garage and a large garden. The ground floor boasts a two-storey entry hall with guest bathroom, a modern kitchen, large dining and very comfortable living room. On the first floor we have a guest bedroom with a single and a vanishing king size bed, a master bedroom and dressing room, as well as two bathrooms, both with shower an bath tube each, and seperat toilet.
Above the garage there is a sizable lounge including a billiards table.
On the second floor we have two spacious bedrooms with queen size beds, a smaller living room, another single bedroom and a fully equipped bathroom with shower, bath tube and toilet. All together up to 8 people can sleep comfortably in our house.
Like every modern home we can offer TV/cable (3), DVD-player, Stereo/HiFi, computer, high speed internet, and the kitchen contains amongst other things: ceramic stove with oven, microwave, dishwasher, steamer etc. Naturally, there is an internal laundry with washing machine, dryer, ironing board, and so on.
Our house lies nestled in between the university suburb, a big hospital complex and green woods. Nevertheless, we are incredibly close to the city center wich can be reached in 5 min by car or 10-15 min by tram - which stops only 3 min walk away. Within a few minuntes you get to our local bakery and supermarket. The bigger shopping centres are either in the city or on the edge of town, but are all accessibly via car or public transport. Our neighbours are very nice, quiet people, university professors, entrepreneurs, MDs etc.
Graz itself is often described as the world's smalest major city, or the biggest small town. It offers extensive flair, culture and all kind of entertainment, yet also the possibility to easy get to other fantastic places in Europe. Most of them can be reached within a few hours by car or train. Here are a few examples: Vienna 200km, Vinice 430km, Budapest 420km, Ljubljana 200km, Zagreb 190km, Salzburg 280km, or Munich 420km. While Graz is not a skiing destination as such, there is a superb range of winter sports available and less than one hour away. Schladming - host city for the ski world cup 2013 - is less than 2 hours drive away.
For those who enjoy swimming there are many public indoor pools around, as well as fnatastic thermal spas about an hours drive away.
Our Int. Airport is only 30 min. from our house, offering a large number of flights (also low-fair) to London, Barcelona etc.
We own two adorable drama-fee cats who enjoy beeing both in- and outdoors. Therefor we are unfortunately unable to invite dogs.
We would much appreciate a car exchange and can gladly offer: 2012 Skoda Yeti, 2002 Smart Cabrio, 2001 Audi TT, or a 1932 Chevy Roadster .... whatever pleases you....
We are both in our 50ies (non-smokers) and have two wonderful grown-up children. Herta my wife works as a teacher in grammar school and I (Richard) am an entrepreur (vintage cars and real estate). Our daughter Stephanie lives and works in Sydney and would be happy to get in touch with people interested in exchanging houses with us. Niki, our son, lives in Vienna and will not travel with us and can thus be of assistance with the house hand-over. Also privat pick-up from the airport can be arranged.
We love travelling and Herta and myself have been on a four month around the world trip a couple of years ago. In the last years we have had 15 wonderful homeexchanges.
We have a large family wich gets together on regular basis. Aside from that we also enjoy a very open house and always love having people around.
