Our weatherboard cottage was built in 1901 with a modern renovation and large extension built on in 2006. It is essentially two homes in one. The main home is upstairs and a separate flat/apartment forms the lower half of the house. The main home is entered from the street which opens out to become the first floor. The bottom floor is now a self contained flat previously used by my children, while they were students.
The flat has a separate entrance from the street through wrought iron gates which takes you down through the garden via a series of decks and steps. It has a basic kitchenette combined with a dining-lounge area, plus a laundrette, one bathroom with a separate toilet, and two double bedrooms.
There is a pretty north facing outside entertainment area which opens on to the garden with a BBQ. Here you will find a comfortable sofa and a table setting for four; a lovely place to relax and enjoy our beautiful weather. There is an outdoor shower, perfect for washing off the salt when you walk back from your morning swim.
The apartment is a bright and modern space, although not overly large. The gardens are simple and green with loads of shade in summer. The house is a 5 minute walk down to the Indian Ocean, then another 5-10 will have you at the famous Cottesloe beach, considered one of the best in Australia.
We live in a wonderful part of the city, a leafy and well established suburb with good public transport (the train is a 2-3 minute walk away). Cottesloe is located between Perth City and Fremantle City - 15 minutes either way.
With incredible weather, there are a wide variety of activities to participate in; water sports, outdoor cinemas, restaurants and good shopping. Perth is a small city built around the Swan River, only a 5 minute drive from the house.
The beautiful south west coast of WA is a must see for visitors and is close enough to visit for a weekend. A car is recommended to make the most of our huge and varied state. The house is a 5 minute walk down to the Indian Ocean, then another 5-10 will have you at the famous Cottesloe beach, considered one of the best in Australia.

I am in my mid 50's, have 2 adult children and now work part- time in a senior position with a biotech company.
I love to travel whenever I have the chance having spent time in Europe, USA and Asia. Unfortunately, this is not a possibility every year so I like to make the most of my 4 - 6 weeks annual leave. I like to keep fit and healthy and usually plan my holidays around an activity such as a hike or a special event/occasion. I mostly travel with a friend.....usually someone different each time, and sometimes even with my children!
I have participated in 2 swaps that have both been non-simultaneous events. This has allowed me to meet and interact with my guests from other parts of the world. It is a great opportunity to show off my home city and I love the thought of other people experiencing our special part of the world!
