Our neighborhood

Tasmania is the southern most island State of Australia with Old Beach on the eastern shore of Hobart, capital of Tasmania. Climate is WARM temperate similar to southern Spain. Summers in the mid 20's Celcius but with some days more like sub-tropics in high 20's and low 30's C. Winter is mild, no snow. The Derwent River separates Hobart's two shorelines and flows out to open Pacific ocean. Known as the Apple Isle due to its apple orchards and also it numerous berry growing areas. Hobart is most famous for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race held every year on Boxing Day with the finish being New Year in Hobart. It is also a State steeped in convict history with most especially Port Arthur, one of Australia's primary convict destinations from the colonial era. There is always a time in the year's calendar when there is something flowering in Hobart's pretty gardens. Tasmania has some wonderful sandy long beaches everywhere especially on the eastern coast. There are plenty of off shore islands such as Bruny Is., Maria Is. [National Park Reserve] and King Is [famous for its dairy produce], mountainous parks to go hiking especially in the west where Cradle Mt and other National Park Reserves are located. The island State itself is most beautiful to drive around with the northern most coast only 3-4hrs drive from the south to the north. Airport transfers included if I am home. www.tourtasmania; www.discovertasmania; www.parks.tas.gov.au

Something about ourselves

I have another home in sub-tropical Queensland if that is your preference.Prefer overseas exchanges for that home to be 1mth+ duration with a car exchange. Preference given to long term exchanges. Open to all offers and dates negotiable. Seeking exchanges in the UK, USA, Japan,Europe for 2010.I like to get away from Tasmania each year when it is autumn/wintertime April - August so more than happy to do non-simultaneous if you wish to come in our spring/summertime Sept-March with north-south hemispherical exchanges if you can reciprocate. I have 2 cars available. Scottish born. Retired Art teacher. I offer myself also as a homesitter/petcarer anywhere. I was President/Vice Pres. of the Queensland Exchange Teachers League for 4 yrs in the 1980's holding many conferences for overseas teachers from the USA, Canada, UK and other Commonwealth countries. I am interested in other cultures, interior design, architecture, art, landscaping & garden design, photography and reading non-fiction. Enjoy walking, swimming, yoga & meditation, painting, writing. Love animals and happy to pet care within reason if able to travel away during my exchange. My home is pet-free.
