Description of our house

Toowoomba is Australia's largest provincial city of nearly 100,000 on the Great Dividing Range, about 125 kms to Brisbane, and slightly further to Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and is noted for its gardens. We have a comfortable, new townhouse built adjacent to a delightful park for walking and adjacent to water-bird habitat. Almost all rooms have an open view of the park and al fresco meals are a delight.

Toowoomba is Australia's largest provincial city of nearly 100,000 on the Great Dividing Range, about 125 kms to Brisbane, and slightly further to Gold and Sunshine Coasts. Toowoomba is noted for its gardens and Festival of Flowers in September. We have an Art Gallery, good theatre (Empire) as well as Rep Theatre and productions by the drama school of University of Southern Queensland. Shakespeare in The Park, Australian Gospel Music Festival and Hampton High Country Food and Arts Festival are just some of the Autumn features. There are museums, walking tours, wineries, Jondaryan Woolshed working museum, good pubs and restaurants and interesting day and overnight trips. It is the gateway to the Darling Downs outback farming areas - cotton, wool, cattle, wheat. It is an ideal base to explore further afield (round trip of 1 - 2 nights away) for opal mining and hot spas at Lightning Ridge and Moree in the south and the Granite Belt Wineries. Something about ourselves

We are Frank and Maris. Frank is from Leeds, but is now fully acclimatised to Australia. We are both technically retired. We used to be public servants in welfare administration. We also ran our own motel for seven years - interesting and vibrant but a once-only experience! Then we ran a farm with cattle and grew olives for another seven years, just an hour south of Toowoomba. Now Frank works part-time at a large hardware chain store and I do voluntary work with students on a Pastoral Care course, as well as enjoying meetings with a local writer's group. We enjoy life and visiting our five adult children who live at Brisbane, Lismore, Goondiwindi and Canberra. ![]()
