Our home is comfortable, well-lit and airy.You can see the garden and birdlife from all rooms. From the kitchen, lounge room, dining room and 2 verandahs there are views of the city of Newcastle, suburbs, harbour, beaches, and mountains. There is a large covered verandah off the kitchen for entertaining and barbecues. The study is next to the kitchen. There is an additional living room on the ground floor with piano, lounge suite, bathroom and laundry. The double garage underneath, with internal access can be used for an extra entertainment area, equipped with a ping pong table and dartboard. There is a shaded table setting in the garden. We have bicycles which you can use on excellent trails nearby and camping equipment.

Newcastle is an interesting port city with a well preserved historical precinct and harbour foreshore for strolling and cycling. The city is known for its theatres, art galleries, markets, working harbour,Ramsar listed wetlands, breakwater walk to Nobby's lighthouse and nature walks in Blackbutt Reserve.There are numerous beaches, including our local beach with windsurfing, paragliding, rockpools, rock platform fishing, outdoor café and free ocean baths 4 mins drive from here. There are interesting walks from the house through bushland, to clifftops,lagoon, beach and rainforest. Our suburb has a hang-gliding launch site and provides excellent opportunities for humpback whale sightings from clifftop vantage points. 15 minutes drive away is Lake Macquarie, Australia's largest saltwater lake and 1 hour's drive takes you to Port Stephens. Both offer a range of aquatic pastimes. The Hunter Valley with its horse studs, farms, hamlets and high quality wineries is a short drive away. Barrington Tops National Park, a huge protected wilderness is 3 hours drive away, with camping, hiking through Antarctic beech forests and canoeing. Sydney is 2 hours by car, 2.5 scenic hours by train or you can splurge on a seaplane. Newcastle is an inviting alternative to Sydney as it has so many accessible attractions without the crowds.....rated recently in the Top 10 cities in the world from a Lonely Planet survey! We are retired teachers, Jennifer and Michael with 2 adult daughters who live in Sydney. A highlight of our working lives was a teaching exchange in Nottinghamshire. More recently we have been doing housesits on rural properties in NSW, so we have plenty of experience looking after other people's homes. We have wonderful memories of our home exchanges in Sweden, Paris, Colorado, Somerset, NZ and Netherlands. We like bush walking,skiing,tennis,swimming,gardens, historic sites, art galleries and national parks....most things!! We would be happy to visit anywhere we have not been...flexible with dates and open to simultaneous and non-simultaneous exchanges. We believe that spring and autumn are ideal times for both hemispheres, but will consider and reply to all offers.
