The property is set on 90 acres of mixed sub-tropical rainforest and cattle pasture, nestled beneath a steep sandstone escarpment at 500m elevation. It is 130km south of Sydney, and 15km from the Pacific Ocean. We face north towards the southern hemisphere sun, and enjoy stunning panoramic rural views north along the nearby Illawarra escarpment, and in an easterly direction out over the coast.
You will be surrounded by nature. Kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and echidnas are common, while there is even the occasional snake! Birdlife includes lyrebirds with their brilliant song, king parrots, black as well as sulphur crested cockatoos, crimson rosellas, wedge-tailed eagles, and many smaller colourful birds such as fairy wrens.
While the setting is a wilderness one, there are 7 residences within 500m of our home, so the location is not isolated.
At 34 degrees S, we have warm to hot summers, and refreshingly cool winters with occasional overnight frost. Annual rainfall ranges from 1250mm - 3000mm (50-120 inches), which tends to come in intense downfalls, with lots of sunny days in between.
There is good touring and walking in the surrounding area, and we are only 20 minutes from Kiama's outstanding ocean beaches, as well as from interesting Southern Highland villages such as Robertson. Nearby Jamberoo village, a 10 minute drive, has a good grocery store, patisserie, cafe, historic pub, newsagent, hairdresser, butcher, golf club, croquet club, bowling club, tennis courts and swimming pool. Teenagers will love the nearby Jamberoo Fun Park, whose slogan is "where you control the action"! There are also some beautiful rainforest walks and activities in the surrounding area as well as art/craft galleries and plenty of other activities. We are Susie and Richard, respectively a teacher and a retired businessman. We have 6 adult children between us, two in the UK (with grandchildren), and the others in Australia. We enjoy eating out, the cinema, theatre, reading and outdoor activities, mainly walking. This rural second home is our real hobby. We wish to travel to see family and enjoy new places, and to meet people in a way which is just not possible staying in hotels, or joining tours. We particularly enjoy walking holidays. We have completed 3 exchanges over the past 2 years, and are house proud. We are Susie and Richard, respectively a teacher and a retired businessman.
