We live near the village of Federal and are a short drive due west of Byron Bay - the most easterly tip of Australia (see http://www.byron-bay.com
Our home offers the peacefulness of the Australian bush and rain forest as well as easy access to national parks and some of the best surfing beaches in the world.
Our warm and inviting timber home is surrounded by windows and decks. A huge deck at the front of the house has a dining table and lounge chairs and is our main living area for most of the year. A wood fire in the large, open plan living room keeps us cosy warm in the short winter months and overhead fans in the living and bed rooms keep us cool in the summer months. A Rayburn wood stove offers an alternative cooking option to the electric fan forced oven and gas bench burners in the kitchen.
A Balinese style self-contained studio, called Cloud House, immediately adjacent to the main house accommodates the third bedroom and second bathroom and means we - and you - can have guests to stay.

The region in which we live was once untouched rain forest and there are still areas of natural rain forest in nearby national parks.
On our property and in the neighboring region are palm, mango, citrus, avocado and frangipani trees as well as eucalyptus and other trees native to Australia.
Our wildlife includes koalas, wallabies, frogs echidnas and bandicoots and the bird life includes kookaburras, cat birds, Indian mynahs, butcher birds, owls, cockatoos and lorikeets.
Although we live in the bush, we are only a short drive to three towns - Byron Bay, Bangalow and Mullumbimby, all of which have interesting shops and cafes galore. And we are only a half hour drive from Lismore which is our regional centre.
Northern NSW has a sub-tropical climate so summer is our rainy season and is warm and humid. Spring and autumn are warm and balmy and in winter we usually have cold, crisp nights and mild, sunny days.
Local tourist attractions are surfing beaches, national parks and waterfalls, farmers' markets, delicious local seafood and a rich cultural environment with lots of artists and live music. We are David and Kate. We are both 'seachangers' having moved here - Kate from Sydney and David from Malaysia. We both chose this region because of its beauty and the sub-tropical climate. Between us we have 9 adult children and 15 grandchildren. Kate runs her own business in leadership coaching and David recently retired from our local university and is on a couple of not for profit boards. We are regular visitors to the beach in the summer months and enjoy bush walks all year round. We both enjoy reading, cooking, entertaining and traveling. Kate does regular yoga and we both walk our dog Ruby every morning. We are David and Kate. We are both 'seachangers' having moved here - Kate from Sydney and David from Malaysia.
