With commanding ocean and district views to the east, our house is half way up a hill overlooking Newport Village and Newport Beach. The home is 6 y.o. and is built on 3 levels. The lower/downstairs area contains a self-contained flat, with separate entrance, that is currently occupied to a responsible single guy with a cat. The upper level(s), where we live, contain both a main and guest bedrooms, a study and an open plan living and kitchen/dining area. There are decks on both the street side and the ocean view side of the house, with barbeque and outdoor furniture.
The living area has high ceilings and expansive glass sliding doors which open to a wide timber deck and gas BBQ. The lounge area contains a 32 inch LCD TV with free-to-air and a limited range of cable channels (Foxtel), as well as a modern sound system for CD’s, DVD’s etc.
There are 2 bathrooms available (including an ensuite with spa bath). The main bedroom has a queen bed and a walk-in wardrobe. The study on the entry level is air-conditioned and contains a modern desktop PC, with broadband internet access, a printer and sofa couch.
The kitchen is well-equipped with quality appliances and a large marble island bench.
The garage is on the street level (see photos) and there are 17 steps down to the front entrance. We are a short 6-7 min walk or quick drive to Newport beach and shops/cafes. Newport is part of the Northern Beaches and is located on a hilly but narrow peninsula, between the ocean surfing beaches and an inland waterway referred to as Pittwater. It is a popular boating area and there are several yacht clubs nearby. Most of the ocean beaches nearby have ocean/rock swimming pools if you don’t want to venture into the surf.
Newport Village contains a modern supermarket, specialty shops and a large number of good quality restaurants and cafes. The main commercial centre is at Mona Vale, about 6 minutes away by car.
The distance to the city (Sydney CBD) is approximately 30 km and is about 1 hour by bus or 45 mins by car (in non-peak times). Newport is also relatively close to other scenic and recreational destinations, such as Palm Beach, Manly Beach, Pittwater and Kuring-gai National Park. There are several public and private golf courses within a few km. The Central Coast and numerous Pittwater locations can also be accessed mostly by car, in some instances by ferry or walking tracks through the National Park. We are Warren and Susan, both in our early 60’s. Susan works on a casual basis and is a fanatical swimmer – at the ocean rock pools. Warren is recently retired and is has some hobbies, enjoys gardening, gym work and dreams of playing golf on a regular basis. We have grown -up children who live away from home.
We would like to spend some time in Cornwall and perhaps the Lakes District. A short time will be spent in London to visit Susan’s son who lives in Islington. We would also like to visit other areas of the UK and are also considering a short spell in either Spain, the south of France or Croatia; but we are also open to suggestions.
We will be away for 5 weeks from 22 February 2011 to end of March 2011 so we could consider a non- simultaneous exchange at that time and/or a simultaneous exchange between from May and August 2011.
